I would think that they do know each other considering how many times Hal has died.

And yes, Hal flirts with Death all the time.

It's not like it isn't a realistic possibility too. Every Crisis event requires a sacrifice and Hal being prominent in Dark Crisis can't be a coincidence. I doubt he's been that prominent just because Pariah thought Hal of all people could understand him wanting to "make things right". In the end someone must be biting the bullet(aside from Beast Boy) and they'd want to make it look like its "for real" this time.
