I think people refer to rope as being made by twisting the filaments like this:

While lassoes are tressed like this, but usually thinner:

But I think both of them are kinds of rope.

Aside from the art, and the "lol whut" factor of Diana breaking off a piece of the lasso, I think this may be my favorite New 52 WW story:
    - Features one of her classic villains, who is neither overpowered or chumped
    - Set in her iconic home-away-from home, Washington D.C
    - Diana is merciful to her opponent without needing a man to convince her to be
    - Doesn't need help from Superman! Or, presumably, Orion and the Pantheon, either.
    - Les Yay subtext for those who want it
    - And Diana debunking society's gender roles without being overly preachy

Can we have this writer on the solo at some point?

    You're quite right, actually.

Rope is when you have filaments that are twisted together. The twisting is the key feature of rope.

The second image is actually "cord," which is woven or braided. Never twisted.

In the end, it's a moot point, since I'm sure I've seen the Lasso referred to as a "cord" at least once or twice.

I agree with every word. Especially the part about getting Amanda Deibert on the solo sometime soon. This lady can write Diana any day of the week, as far as I'm concerned.

I really loved that speech with the little boy. You're right: she wasn't preachy. She just told the kid "Be true to yourself, and don't let anyone tell you who you are." THAT'S how you inspire people, boys and girls!

The lasso is actually a chain not a rope or a cord. In it's origin we learn it was forged from the girdle and is links of unbreakable golden metal with a silk like feel to it. It's in WW #1

Huh. In which case, then that pic of Gal Gadot, in which her Lasso looked kind of like a cable may be more faithful to the original concept of the Lasso than we thought.

Indeed ... I like that we've seen a little more Golden Age WW creep it's way into modern WW. Azzarello has taken a few bits out of Marston's play book too.

Yep. Most of the Golden Age concepts have been neglected for so long because they've seemed so strange. But every so often, people look back at old ideas and suddenly realize that they're not as old or as unusable as they thought.

    I approve.

    I approve.
And DC actively tried to divorce themselves from the sexuality of it when the CCA came around and called out WW and the Amazons as lesbians that had a negative impact on children.

I also approve of them owning her history a little more

    Indeed!

If it gives Diana a sex life and gets people interested in Wonder Woman again? It's all good stuff to me.

The CCA really said that about Wonder Woman and the Amazons? Sigh........I'm glad DC doesn't have the CCA's stamp on their covers any more.

Well, technically they never said anything about it ... The CCA was created when some psychologist (his name is escaping me) spoke at length about the negative impact comics had on children ... He sighted WW and the Holiday Girls and the Amazons as clearly lesbian and discussed the "homosexual subtext" of the Batman and Robin relationship and spoke at length of the violence in comics. There were Congressional hearing and lots of public outcry, mostly over the abundance of horror comics at the time (1950's) which eventually led to the CCA being created by the industry as a way to survive. WW suffered in many ways, and DC spent the next 60 years pretending that Marston's sexual and bondage themes were imaginary.

True story! Women, Blacks, Gays, right wing republicans, for a country that claims to be the melting pot we certainly don't always act like one. But to be fair the media loves to play into stories like this and if nothing else we know this is a country where RATINGS matter!

I liked how in this second story Amanda Deibert goes off book and has new52 Diana use the lasso while she isn't even wearing the sword
If ten years of recording The Young and the Restless for my mother have taught me anything, it's that characters in serial dramas are always happily in love...until they're not

    I approve.
Perez actually used this way back in his second issue
