That was the first issue of the Avengers title proper I ever bought off the stands when I was a kid. I had gotten a couple issues of Marvel Triple Action with reprints of the Kooky Quartet plus Pym era previously. That was my intro to Avengers, but #144 started me buying the title as regularly as I could manage on my allowance for a number of years (I think the last I got off the stands as a kid was #188, and then later a mail subscription starting with #211 for a year) then not again until I was old enough to work and make my own money. But that issue, and George's art, made me a huge Avengers fan as a kid.

One of the greatest names of the industry, right up there with the likes of Jack Kirby, Hal Foster, Alex Raymond, etc...

So, Heroes Reborn not only did screw us out of, arguably, the best Captain America run of all-time, but also of the Perez gem? Way to go, Marvel.
Well, at least we had Heroes Retiurn, and got rid of Teen Tony in the deal.

    Peace

We were also able to get the start of (arguably) one of the best runs ever on Avengers from Busiek/Perez! Wah-Hoo!!

Interesting choice to show Binary in the Warbird/Ms. Marvel costume there. In the actual run, Carol could no longer access Binary (in fact, didn't she only regain that power level after becoming Captain Marvel?)

That's the cover of the first issue. Carol still could access the power in the first four issues (she was gradually losing it). And that was the costume (and the codename Warbird) that she used in the series.

    Peace

PS: If I'm not mistaken, Carol was even a last minute addition to the cover, along with other continuity tweaks, such as Rick being crippled and others.

Hmmn. As Warbird, Carol could not go Binary. But I think after Carol went back to Ms Marvel, she could for brief periods and with enough power-up.

I wanna say I read somewhere that George originally drew Carol in her Binary suit, but Kurt told him his plans for the character so he changed it to the Ms Marvel suit at last second.
