Well, Firestorm at least WAS a Justice Leaguer in the comics already (he joined in JLA #179 published in 1980, the year Cyborg debuted!). Cyborg didn't join for another 20 years or so!

It's criminal how Cyborg was handled. To be perfectly fair, there's no reason Cyborg shouldn't be (at the very least) on par with the rest of the League in terms of staying power. It's been more than a decade and if DC actually tried to push Cyborg the same way they pushed some of the other characters during New 52 (Aquaman, for instance) then Cyborg would probably have more of a following.
A lot of us knew that Cyborg was only placed on the League for tokenism, but that doesn't mean he couldn't have been respected and valued as a potential franchise. John Sempter Jr and David Walker did the best they could with the character but the editors just wouldn't get out of the way. And now we're here. Cyborg doesn't have an ongoing. He doesn't have any presence outside of the comics (and no, I don't count Teen Titans Go, or Doom Patrol). His supporting cast is pretty much in limbo and I'm pretty sure they're never coming back.
The character deserved so much more than simply being DC's token Black guy.
Truly a shame how Cyborg was handled. Man got promoted to being a Justice League founder but editorial insisted on him repeating the same tired “man or machine, woe as me” bs. Despite some writers like David Walker wanting to evolve him. And now he might be screwed for the foreseeable future thanks to Ray Fishers beef with WB.

Cyborg at least gets a cool moment in Dark Crisis #2 today
spoilers:end of spoilers
He gets a dramatic posing moment where he finishes off Cyborg Superman to save Jon Kent as Henshaw attempts to continue their fight. And by finishing him off I mean he stomps in his head and says “I’m sick of you giving cyborgs a bad name”.

Aside from that thing with the tattoos, I don't really see anything new here. It hasn't exactly been a secret that editorial never cared about restoring Cyborg's humanity.

Well there is some BONUS tea to that....
You do know WHO the editor was??? Same editor on Static Shock and Black Lightening Cold Dead Hands.
Harvey Richards. A black man. Who has already been aired out by Marc Bernardin.

For all the cries of we need black folks behind the scenes and in charge. Here is an example of why that is not always a good thing.Issue 8 was my first real go at Static. And Harvey made it awful. Edits that pulled the story in directions I didn’t like. Changes I didn’t agree with. Vetoing almost every decision I wanted to make. It got to the point where an email from him would make me physically sick.
When I turned in the first draft of the script for issue 8, the note I got back was “I just don’t think you understand how superhero stories work.”
When I got the news of the cancellation, it was greeted with a sigh of relief. I didn’t write a comic book for years after that. It broke me.
And now it makes sense Richards has not SNIFF employment anywhere despite 25 yeas experience.
In Titans Academy they got fused together and then separated via Raven’s magic. It was some weird construct thing, not 100% how to explain it.
In Dark Crisis Gar got shot in the face by Deathstroke. He’s apparently still alive as the book calls out, he’s just really wounded. I’m assuming since Vic is still standing and able to crush Cyborg Superman with his feet and that Gar was shot is an indication they are no longer bonded.
