Yeah there are those Spider-Marriage fans who think Marvel respects it in a way that its return will be eventually permanent lol.

I think it's arguable Marvel respect it and always have a place for it. They are putting together a new edition of the Wedding collection this year, Annie's been featured in Carnage, the newspaper strip reruns still feature them married etc. It's always been a semi-permanent fixture of things outside of 616. You can't blame us for having faith.

They have it happen anywhere that isn't the main comics timeline, which consistently bring less attention because they're random alternate universes, and aren't ASM (Save for the brief period where ASM was replaced by RYV), and in 616 itself they get back together but break up again.

Having a new edition of Wedding Collection while currently they're broken up with Spidey being a douche is some weird irony lol.

Either way, they only respect it in the sense that having the possibility of Spidey and MJ getting together brings attention, but breaking them up again also brings attention, and Marvel is still doing the Brevort method of "pissing off fans increases sales", which, they're right to an extent, but they fail to realize this is not good on long term.

Now hey, if you wanna have faith, that's fine, I just roll my eyes whenever Spider-Marriage fans talk like "they will get back together, permanently, any moment now!", which, the last 14 years haven't done anything to prove 'em right (Spencer's run did at least have 'em back together with good chemistry the few times they interacted, but uh, now we have Wells' run...), and while you can point out that Quesada is gone now, I doubt he had any real power for the last years before he left, and he wasn't the only one opposed to the marriage anyways, now, maybe stuff can change now that he's gone, and if we're lucky he did have some power left and he used the last of it for the current Wells ASM run, and if we're really lucky then Spidey will stop being bad angst porn, I'm just not holding my breath on that.

The alternate universe matter. They've mattered since Spider-Verse was a thing. They've been involved in the core stories.

They don't matter that much when those universes generally don't show up much in Spidey's usual stories, it's in designated Spider-Verse crossovers they do more major stuff, and even in those 616 tends to do most of the heavy lifting.

Bringing less attention makes them less important by default, and fact that marriage is only happening in them while in 616, Spidey and MJ aren't even together shows that Marvel kinda sees the marriage as something to only happen in random alternate universes right now.

Let's reverse the situation, imagine that only in 616 Spidey was married with MJ, and all other universes he was single, or with someone else, would you say those universes "matter"? Would you defend some reverse RYV as strongly?

Ultimately the main universe from comics is the most important one, and in this main universe, ASM matters the most, and if in those two Spidey isn't with MJ, then it means Marvel doesn't see them being together as that important, specially when they can be used for short term sales on stupid readers who don't realize the stick and carrot situation they're in.

At least it's not all bad though, if Spidey being with MJ only ever happened in random universes from the comics while they're broken up in 616, then it'd be basically hopeless, at least for a while, but, Spider-Verse treats blonde Peter as being married with MJ as the best life he can have, Peter B. gets back together with her and that's shown to be a way for him to fix his life, and PS4 Spidey has him and MJ being together, while I don't really care about Spider-Verse only really using MJ as a way to show Peters are happy, it at least treats the relationship itself as a positive thing, and all of those stories being more about Spidey being someone who deals with bad **** but keeps going, while Wells' ASM is bad angst porn, shows that the problem is more on the comics than anything.

But enough about this, neither of us are changing our minds and this is a Felicia thread, so back on topic.

Guess at some point one or both of us will wise up enough to stop bothering each other over this.

I mean Spider-Betty survived both Spider-Verse and Spider-Geddon, and she's a nobody lol.

A new "Spider"-version of a character is unlikely to die, or die and stay dead in the event itself, but hey, maybe Slott will prove me wrong lol.
