Which is one of the reasons I think Manga does so well with non-comic shop-comic readers. They don't have to go month by month to chase down issues. They get a huge chunk at one time and they're usually done by the time the next volume comes out.
It seems that floppies exist mainly for two reasons, and they both benefit comic shops more than the publisher or the reader.
These are:
1. recurring foot traffic each month (or week).
2. they're the heart of the collectors' market.
Make OGNs that come out once every six months (which would reduce foot traffic but be more convenient for readers) and keep them in print for a long period of time (which would reduce the collector value but increase availability)...
What happens?
You gain a great deal of new readers...
But you also piss off the comic shops.
