Old School Asgard (by Kirby)
I love that there's a shopping centre.
Early DeFalco/Frenz Thor hooked me with the "War of the Pantheons" storyline. Sooooo glad the whole thing was in its own Epic Collection.
^^^Couldn't agree more! Truly, the epitome of EPIC storytelling (IMHO):
I don't know if this qualifies as awesome moment...maybe outrageous
During the Heroes Return phase of Marvel titles, it would take a while before Doom rejoins the Earth Prime. He had ruled over Franklin's planet that he created for the Heroes Reborn who were assume to be dead after the final battle with Onslaught. They really got shuffled over to Franklin's "Blue Ball" planet. The Image guys wrote one year of Heroes Reborn comics for the FF, Iron Man, Captain America, etc and then their titles were relaunched. It gets complicated but suffice to say that Thor and Doctor Doom stayed behind for a while. When Thor returned Doom decided he wanted to stay behind on Franklin's planet and he decided to conquer and create a new kingdom there. Once done, he returned in Chris Claremont's Fantastic Four where the FF and Doom teamed up to fight the Dreaming Celestial. They defeated him but not without a "parting gift". Doom was sent back to "Planet Doom" and Reed was trapped in his armor. So when Doom arrives on the other world, he has nothing to wear! Fortunately for him he ends up in a warm climate and not in the Arctic. It doesn't take long for him to end up fighting to survive...
I was a huge fan of Dan Jurgens' Dark Gods storyline in Thor. Some of my favorite scenes:
Thor, Hercules, and the Destroyer charging into the hordes of the Dark Gods' soldiers:
Thor channeling his power to take down the leader of the Dark Gods:
"I am a man of peace."
"A man of peace...who fights like ten tigers."
Just read this from Dan Slott's Silver Surfer run. Surfer and Dawn Greenwood back went to the extremes of the universe to save Eternity. But now they can't get back. So what happens? Eternity himself brings them back together:
"I am a man of peace."
"A man of peace...who fights like ten tigers."
DeFalco's run gets crap, but there was some good stuff in there...case in point...FF #381.
