Default Xmen: Supernovas Appreciation Thread 2022

    portrait_uncanny.jpg

Been a decade and a half.

The Xmen strike team made before the upcoming Xmen Messiah Complex event. Headed by Mike Carey(one of the writers for the MC event, X-Men Legacy) and Chris Bachalo(Generation X and Uncanny X-men Fame) this team featured Rogue as the Leader enlisted help of mutants Good and Bad in the wake of M-day. After the Blinded by the Light storyline, the Title would change to X-men Legacy where Professor Xavier would headline for a time before returning to Rogue.

Original print release July 12 2006

The team is published under X-men Marauders as of November 28 2018.

    Collected trades

    Xmen Supernovas: X-men #188-199, 200-204 and Xmen(2007) annual #01.

    Story lines

    Supernovas: X-men 188-193
    Primary Infection: X-men 194-196
    X-men Annual #1
    Critical Condition: X-men 197-199
Blinded by the Light: X-men 200-204(Also shares a spot with Xmen: Endangered Species)

    Members

    Rogue(Leader)
    Cannonball
    Iceman
    Mystique
    Cable
    Sabertooth
    Omega Sentinel
    Lady Mastermind
    Northstar
    Aurora

    Enemies
    Children of the Vault

I said someone should make threads for certain runs and so I'm doing it. Plus considering the members listed(aside from Lady Mastermind) have some prominence in the Krakoa Era.

    Rogue's with the X-men
    Cable-SWORD
    Mystique-Immortal X-men
    Cannonball-New Mutants and Secret X-men
    Omega Sentinel-X-men HOXPOX, Inferno
    Northstar and Aurora-X-factor, Marauders
    Iceman-Marauder, TBA
    Sabertooth-Upcoming Series
    Lady Mastermind-On Krakoa

Ad the Children of the Vault returned in X-men 2019 #5 and #18 by Jonathan Hickman.

Rogue leading her own Suicide Squad

Great team, great villains, and each character had their moments to shine
Carey's run is way too underrated
I really liked the art too (especially Bachalo's)

I recently re-read Carey's epic and this was such an amazing story.

Talk about a starting with a bang, and this was the first time that original enemies seemed like a real threat and not just a gimmick that would never be heard from again.

I just wish the Children of The Vault were ORCHIS's X-Men and they were Krakoa's primary antagonist - it just makes logical sense!

I've been meaning to read this, looks terrific.

(A random nitpick, Cable & Deadpool has a few tie-in issues to around this arc, and from what I could tell it didn't do much for either that story or as it's own Cable & Deadpool story. Red Data / Fractured. Event tie-in books always read weird when I get to them in collections.)

Carey's run does seem like an underrated gem. You hear people mention it from time to time, but I also know almost nothing about it, other than that it does well with Rogue. And I love this art from early in the run.

Oh you gotta read it, I only picked it up because so many people recommended it and I never realized he has the second longest run in X-Men history (second to Claremont).

It's good character work, especially for Gambit, Xavier, Magneto, and Rogue.

The art throughout his run is amazing as well, we get Clay Mann doing some of the sexiest looking X-Men ever.

Such a good line-up. I miss it. The full page panel of Rogue boarding the plane with everyone else behind her is one of my favorite X-moments in one of my favorite X-arcs. Carey and Bachalo really made a great team.

I read this way after it was published and I have to agree it was a really solid run. I think Hickman improved on the CoTV but Carey laid the groundwork for sure.
    You brought back Wolverine

Carey introducing my fave X-Men villains in Supernovas, immortalises him for me The action at the mansion between the Xmen and Beaubiers remains one of my fave brief skirmishes.
