Default DC LGBTQ+ characters 2022 appreciation

    New year, new thread 😊

    2021 appreciation thread: https://community.cbr.com/showthread...1-appreciation

Main DC LGBTQ+ happenings of 2021:

    • Tim Drake comes out as queer (bicurious/bisexual/maybe gay – not specified yet) (Batman: Urban Legends #6)

    • Jon Kent comes out as bisexual (Superman: Son of Kal-El #5)

    • Nubia is confirmed as queer (Nubia and the Amazons #3)

    • There are trans amazons living on Themyscira (Nubia and the Amazons #1)

    • Vixen comes out as bisexual (Harley Quinn: The Animated Series: The Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour #4)

    • Zala Jor-El and Diana/Wonder Woman are in a romantic relationship (Dark Knights of Steel #2 – an alternate/ Elseworlds type of universe)

    • The first LGBTQ+ anthology is published by DC (DC Pride #1) – the debut of Justice League Queer (JLQ)

    • The JLQ appear again in Tis the Season to Be Freezin' #1

    • Superman/Clark Kent reorganizes the Authority. The line-up includes LGBTQ+ members Steel (Natasha Irons), OMAC, Lightray (Lia Nelson), Midnighter, and Apollo (Superman and the Authority)

I hope we will have much to discuss here this year!

    DC Forum Appreciation Thread rules:

    1) No negative comments about the honoree(s) of this thread. It's an appreciation thread, not a non-appreciation one.

    2) No negative discussion about any competitors of the honoree(s) of this thread. No ifs, ands, or buts. Find another non-appreciation thread to do that, just not here.

    3) No negative comments about other versions of the character. For example, if you like the DCU version of Cyborg, but hate the DCnU version (or visa versa), just appreciate the earlier version and keep your comments about the latter to yourself.

I think casual clothes better suit Jon than his Supes suit . The jeans & red shoes are a nice reference to his Super-Sons period.

DC is doing surprisingly well with LGBTQ+ leads. Any recommendations among these books?

Among the books listed I am currently only reading Aquaman: The Becoming and Superman: Son of Kal-El, I've been enjoying both but Aquaman is the stronger between the two, as it has done a better job of developing Jackson Hyde's character showing his journey of becoming Aquaman.

There will be a new Sandman ongoing being launched in April. It will be a Black Label series & will feature the Corinthian as a main character.

Congratulations to DC for being the comics publisher with the most nominees. While on a surface level I thought Marvel was faring better than DC in terms of rep, when you see the nominated titles it's clear that DC has confirmed far bigger names like Harley, Ivy, and Superman and Aquaman legacy characters (one the son of Superman and Lois and the other a popular character from a very popular long-running animated series) as LGBTQ+

They've done well on the TV side too.

Note that Aquaman: The Becoming and Superman: Son of Kal-El are a mini that's setup to spin-off into something else and an ongoing telling a longform story respectively, so each are telling to different kinds of stories, with the latter being longform with the perspective of not having to frontload everything and being able to breath better. This isn't a dig at Aquaman: The Becoming; I just feel compelled to defend Superman: Son of Kal-El, as it tends to get the short end of the stick around here a little too often for my tastes, making me feel like I gotta back it up more than I generally feel I should.

As someone who is also enjoying Son of Kal-El, I totally understand and agree, J. D. Guy.

Superman: Son of Kal-El #10 by Travis Moore

Enter The Olympian: A Character Study Of Wonder Woman’s Replacement

I think it's an interesting article about the Olympian. Hope that one day DC will bring him back.

Yeah, they should get rid of Jason and bring Achilles back instead. I was surprised Orlando didn't do that since his run referenced the Gargareans.
