DC LGBTQ+ characters 2022 appreciation

This is pretty much my reaction. I'd be thrilled if Hal were actually shown to be pansexual, but him dating a very alien woman just seems like heterosexuality. Equating queerness to having sex with weird looking aliens - hetero sex to boot - is kind of offensive.

Is it mentioned in the book that that alien is female or are we assuming that coz they are a nurse? jk

Maybe the character is non-binary?

The older I get the less this type of rep seems to do anything for me. Saying that since Hal's horny ass will has sex with inhuman aliens so by extension he's queer seems more like an insult than anything. If you have to use interspecies relations as a stepping stone for saying a character would consider having sex with someone of the same sex then just leave it.

If this is the only type of representation we got then yes, it would be an issue. But Hal's just one of a fortunately increasing number so the more the merrier. Not all LGBTQ+ characters need to be a paragon of virtue after all.

In the preview, there're two queer students, Chupacabra and Stitch. (Bunker is a teacher there but has been a background character, Crush iirc has left the Academy, & Miguel Montez is a student there, but not confirmed for this issue.)

I can understand this point of view. Especially so in cases like this one were the alien being is quite coded as female as it is, making it feel more like a "cheat" to say this is an expression of potential pansexuality.

That can be rectified in the future. The important thing is the license, if DC officially allows Hal to be pan, now it's just alien lady, but in the future, a different writer can pick it up and pair Hal with a guy, or an alien guy, or a trans person.
