Jean Grey in the words of Walt Whitman, from his masterpiece Leaves of Grass, "Song of Myself" (51 and 52):
"Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself, (I am large, I contain multitudes.)"
"Failing to fetch me at first keep encouraged, Missing me one place search another, I stop somewhere waiting for you."
Yeah, it is pretty well known by now that the people at Marvel tend to double down on bad or unpopular decisions that bring fierce backlash, rather than just admit they goofed or made a bad call. They usually fix the issue a few years down the line, but at that point they have dragged it out so long that no one is happy and they have frustrated their consumers for no reason except spite or the need to show they are in control. It for sure makes sense to a point, since they don't want to dance completely to the tune of the fan base for every decision, but there are some cases that are just so obviously disliked by the very large majority that I don't understand why they don't just fix it as soon as they can. What would be so bad about actually listening to your fans' and customers' genuine and honest complaints every once in a while? Just because there might be a small vocal minority that is abusive or ugly about the issue doesn't mean it shouldn't be re-examined at all. There is always going to be that element in everything, but that doesn't mean you should write off your entire customer base and its concerns. Especially over something as silly and small an issue as a costume. I mean sheesh! I honestly did not care enough about this costume business to even complain, but I did find it to be a lame and hokey costume by modern standards and did not understand why Marvel fought so hard for it, for so long, except to placate Hickman(who did not even use her a ton himself) instead of the people that actually pay for this stuff.

The thing is, a costume in a comic can mean a lot to inform characterization and such outside of just how nice it is. I wouldn't mind the minidress if it informed anything about Jean's character, but it really doesn't. If anything it's a sign she's regressed, but I don't think that's what they were going for.
No, you! Also, hot picture!
Well, in X-Men #4, Duggan implied that Jean was conflicted over not just her uniform but also her overall (purposeful?) regression. It seems she may have been holding herself back for several reasons, one being her history with the Phoenix Force, and another the dawn of the Krakoan era.
We'll see if he explains it. I believe her reworked Gala uniform will premiere later this month in Devil's Reign: X-Men #1.

I mean, I'd have an easier time believing that was the plan all along if that had been hinted at throughout her appearances. but it's nice he at least tried something with it after she got stuck in the dress. Or maybe it was planned. I don't know because how much other authors followed on Hickman's stuff seemed to vary from book to book tbh.
Is it too much to hope that that outfit is besmirched and destroyed in such a horrific and shameful fashion that it never ever EVER appears on a mutant body ever again?

I hope her new costume isn't just that pink energy look.
Oh thank God. That dress was outdated decades ago and it if they were never gonna offer some explanation for why they’d use that over any of her past outfits or even a new one, I see no reason to keep it.
Those Twitter responses from Duggan were annoying as h#$%!
Basically, Jean was stuck in that antiqued dress for nearly 3 years...because fans were asking why she's been stuck in that antiqued dress without an in story reason?
I really wish writers or Marvel in general spent as much time investing in meaningful stories as they do trolling fans, what did any of this accomplish?
