Default Wonder Woman as God(dess) of War - What do you think about it now?

So, does anyone miss this period? Did you not like it and think it could have been done better? Do you want it back or do you think it's been explored enough? Or did you hate it and hope it never comes back?

It was all fluff and no filler. Good riddance.

Probably the most interesting "new" concept to come out of New 52 Wonder Woman.

    Too bad it sucked.

Terrible idea. It's been done and done much better back in John Byrne's run when WW became the Goddess of Truth. Even Scott Snyder did it much better when Diana ascended to a Goddess status, sank BWL into a sun then gave it up so she can go on adventures again.

I thought her tour, as Goddess of Truth, was crap. Truth is a power, which Diana weaponizes - a tool - to preserve a world, where love, hope and freedom can flourish. From her ditching Paradise Island, to the first time, she and Etta jumped into a pocket universe, on kangas, ..Wonder Woman has been a spirit of freedom.

They're ALL spirits of hope...superheroes. All of 'em.

Not only was it a terrible idea that by its very nature was unsustainable, but there wasnt really much actually done with the concept to make it all memorable as something that ever happened. Considering the comics were quick to forget it ever happened, its probably best to move on

Potential everything has potential. But DC did with it the smallest amount of effort. Like with Dians being the first hero. It doesn't mean much if they don't make it really count. God Of War was just another gimmik that in the long run had no real meaning because they couldn't give a dam to do anything meaningful with it. If you are not going to put effort into something, don't do anything in the first place.

What was the premise? Because without context, Wonder Woman as a goddess of war seems...contradictory.

Wonder Woman becoming the Goddess of War was strange.

Isn't Wonder Woman suppose to be the opposite of Ares and Diana winning the tournament to stop Ares and anyone else from starting a war in the outside world?

Premise was in this version was that Wonder Woman was actually on good terms with and mentored by Ares and it was all the women in her life who were actually terrible. Then a xerox copy of Hercules called First Born murders Ares who bequeathed to Diana his mantle with his dying breath as a gift and thus she has become the god of war

    Thanks for the info!
So all the women in the life of the world's most famous female superhero were terrible? I guess they did not think that premise through, did they?

Pretty sure the writer Azzarello had issues.
The Amazons were your standard straw man haters who were told worshipped all the gods but if a male god set foot on the island they would try to kill them because men.
And its established they would take boats out to sea to rape men and kill them which is the 'real reason' why they can exist despite not having menz~
Oh and were expected to believe this which were told has been a thing for the Amazons for thousands of years was all this big secret kept from Diana until this run.
Also it establishes that Zeus is this divine and good patriarchal figure who has an unbirthing fetish

As for how the 'god of war' thing played out, this mostly translated to Wonder Woman being able to summon dead warriors from across history to help her wage war since this take on Wonder Woman was very 'warrior minded' Winds up helping Apollo to conquer Olympus after she disposes of First Born.

It was bad enough that the entire storyline which spawned the god of war thing was established to be a twisted illusion.

Why does Azzarello keep getting Wonder Woman gigs? Based on this and other Diana stuff he is done, he seems to be the typical "badassery"-loving fanboy that has zero clue about who Diana is or what her mission stands for.

I actually think the premise is well crafted. If a God kills another God absorbs his powers and responsibilities (or something like that), that was the First Born's intention, to kill Ares to reclaim his divine power as the new God of War, to avoid it, Diana ended up taking the Ares lives and that is how she becomes the goddess of war, to prevent the First Born from doing so.
I know of the hatred towards Azzarello's story, I find it funny and very entertaining beyond that I agree with many of the criticisms made here, but once the inconsistencies are accepted, not of the story but of the character per se, I think that The fact of turning Diana into the goddess of war within the Azz universe has its reason for being and is quite well explained.
The problem arises in the other comics of the New 52 stage, and I am talking about how poorly executed this theme is in the Finch's Wonder Woman, in Superman/Wonder Woman and to a lesser extent in Justice League, where they put this topic as something that Diana cannot handle and they hover over it without being able to give a serious dramatization of the matter, and that is why I think it is best that it stays there forever.

    GOD OF WAR.jpg

I hated how she had to be called the God of War because being a Goddess of War wouldn't be cool enough. She didn't do much with her new powers either, the only memorable instance I can think of was in Superman/Wonder Woman when she used her affinity with soldiers to get her way on an Army base or something. I'd be lying if I said her God Mode power wasn't interesting though.
