I’m not a weekly comic shopper. Has the first issue been released? If so, thoughts? If not, anticipatory thoughts?

Yeah, it came out last week. Basically, if you liked Bendis's Legion series, you'll like this crossover. If not, don't buy.

curious. so what is the contingent of Legion members in this? The "entire" team should dwarf the 6-8 member lineups of the Justice League, Superman and Flash notwithstanding.

Well, it’s not like Bendis really ever focuses on the whole team. There are new characters he introduced that we still know nothing about, like the skeleton person. And even the ones he did focus on only got a very superficial exploration.
Only the Gold Lantern actually seems important, but he’s still a big question mark too.
