Default What elements do you want to see in an Amazing Spider-Man Comic Book run?

Personally, I would like to see the following story elements in Amazing Spider-Man:
    1. Peter and Mary Jane move into a large high-rise apartment together in Manhattan.
    2. Both Peter and Mary Jane establish new careers in Manhattan. Specifically, Peter lands a position as a new technology developer for a company called Future Innovations, while Mary Jane cohosts an early daytime show called Morning Talk and judges a late-night reality show called Model Search. This would introduce a new supporting cast of characters within both Peter and Mary Jane’s professions.
    3. No storylines or references to One More Day, Sins Past, Clones or Chameleons.
    4. Spider-man becomes a more street level focused hero with less reliance on superhero team-ups.
    5. More detailed panel-by-panel sequences of spider-man swinging around New York City.
    6. Spider-man using his intelligence, ingenuity and experience to take down villains without the help of other superheroes.
    7. A return to spider-man webbing up villains with a note attached for the police.
    8. Introduction of several new villains to enter Spider-Man’s rogue’s gallery.

Some ideas I had for new spider-man villains include the following:
    - 5 new crime bosses take control over each of the 5 boroughs of New York. Each crime boss has an underboss and underlings at their disposal.
    - Golden Pharoah has established several illegal underground casinos throughout Brooklyn. His underboss (Lady Luck) and underlings (Card Sharks) oversee the casinos to make sure no customers are cheating by counting cards or utilizing a special algorithm to cheat the system.
    - Madame Peacock controls a large illegal prostitution ring in Queens. Her underboss (Delilah) and underlings (Femme Enforcers) rough up any customers who try to take advantage or abuse their call girls.
    - The Reaper develops, manufactures, and sells technologically advanced firearms to underground criminals throughout New York with the help of his underboss (Red Dragon) and underlings (Skeleton Crew) within an old, abandoned building in Chinatown within lower Manhattan.
    - Silver Swan smuggles rare paintings, jewelry and blood diamonds into Long Island from across the Atlantic Ocean with the help of her underboss (Sea Raider) and underlings (Silver Bullets).
    - Voodoo King has developed a new drug with the help of his underboss (Night Witch) and underlings (Mindless Ones) called Black Mist that increases one’s memory and intellect exponentially over a short period of time. However, increased exposure to the drug eventually causes the person to become a mindless slave to the Voodoo King, which adds to the underlings at his disposal.

Shadow (A secret organization of underground assassins in Manhattan)
    - Mr. Smoke is the mastermind behind Shadow’s secret organization. He locates clients, completes background checks on clients, and sets up lucrative assassination plots for clients. Assassins within his organization include the following: Angel of Death, Dark Raven, Emerald Samurai, Porcelain Frog, Quick Change, Silhouette, and Sniper.

Villain Groups: 1. Gentlemen’s Club - This group of villain’s kidnap superheroes and uncover their secret identities, which they auction off to the highest bidder. 2. Rogues Gallery- Group of criminals that wear rubber masks of different villains in spider-man’s rogue’s gallery such as the Green Goblin, Shocker, Prowler, Jack O’ Lantern, etc. and rob banks. 3. Tech Bandits- Steal newly developed technology from different companies and sells them to the highest bidder.

Other Villains: 1. Evil Spider-Man – Wears a blue and black colored spider-man costume. Each web cartridge around his wrist contains either webbing or acid. Evil spider-man stalks the streets at night and takes pleasure in killing either petty crooks or super powered villains. 2. Doll Queen – She has special technology that can shrink a person down to the size of a living doll. Doll Queen locks her victims away in doll houses throughout her high-rise apartment in Manhattan. 3. Face Mask – Wears a hat, suit, and overcoat. Face mask possesses hundreds of different masks within his collection. Each mask contains a different power set. The variety of powers within each mask enables him to breach different security systems that protect high end technology and merchandise.
    4. Hacker – Hacks into major corporation’s accounts and demands a heavy ransom to remove an untraceable virus within their computer systems. 5. Manikin – Purchased special microchips from the Tech Bandits that gives orders to manikins to steal from high end department stores for him.

Well, let me know what you think about my ideas and please feel free to share your own ideas as I would be happy to comment on them.

OMD definitively undone or resolved. That’s the biggest thing. Everything else is window dressing.

At one point long ago, I wanted Peter to recover Baby May, but it’s just been too many decades now. Even in Marvel time she would have to be a few years old, so it’d just open a can of worms about childhood trauma if she was recovered from an abductor’s grip now. So I’ll leave that in the past.

Oh, and no more scenes of an incompetent Peter/Ben needing to be rescued by kids or Mary Sues. In fact, just get rid of every Spider-powered or influenced hero that isn’t named Peter, Ben, Kaine, Miguel or Miles (I know even that sounds like too much…).

Agreed, the incompetent Peter/Ben needing to be rescued is irritating to read. Also, I also would like to see the OMD get undone or resolved. It just always seems to be dangled like a carrot and pulled away.

    Good stories.
Variety. The good runs tend to be a mix of different types of stories.
Some developments for Peter Parker and a sense of how being Spider-Man affects his life.
    Sincerely,

Yes, kind of like a lot of ASM stories in the 80's where you had a range of stories from spider-man fighting the hobgoblin to the kid who collects spider-man.

Baby May does not exist. If they're going to have a child, it's going to be named Ben.

Street level Spidey also doesn't exist since none of his classic supervillain count as Street level. That'd be like saying that the Red Skull is street level.

I think they mean "street level" in terms of power level, but even so, Red Skull doesn't operate particularly on the streets of any major city, rather as a menace to the entire world with the help of HYDRA, the Watchdogs, and/or any other individuals and organizations willing to abide his fascistic ideals and carry them into action. I'd personally interpret "street level" as being more along the scale at which a superhero typically operates, so Spider-Man can count as "street level" insofar as he spends a lot of time fighting both ordinary and superpowered crime on the streets of New York City. Captain America is considerably less physically powerful than Spider-Man, but he doesn't (usually) fight crime on the streets of New York; he fights would-be world conquerors and tyrants and terrorists on the national and/or global scale, and with the Avengers, he even tackles extraterrestrial, intergalactic, and/or cosmic threats.

Yes, you are correct. By "street level", I meant where spider-man typically operates fighting both ordinary and superpowered criminals on the streets of New York City.

That's gonna be hard if there's still going to be a focus on events.

Agreed, but the purpose of this thread is for fans of the comic to express what elements they would personally like to see in an amazing spider-man comic.

I think the non-powered supporting cast needs some serious attention. MJ got a lot of time in Spencer's run (with the rest touched on here and there) but the rest need something to do.

I'll admit I don't know what can be done about the Bugle cast with Peter no longer working and JJJ having moved on. I'd have thought at least Robbie and Betty would have visited Peter in hospital during Beyond.

Also, I want a Robbie and Tombstone miniseries where they play good cop/bad cop investigating a mystery together. It turns out Janice is behind everything in a hilarious twist.
"Has Sariel summoned you here, Azrael? Have you come to witness the miracle of your brethren arriving on Earth?"

"I WILL MIX THE ASHES OF YOUR BONES WITH SALT AND USE THEM TO ENSURE THE EARTH THE TEMPLARS TILLED NEVER BEARS FRUIT AGAIN!"

"*sigh* I hoped it was for the miracle."

Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!

How would that even work? They hate each other, both of their children had to get kidnapped for them to even try to work together in ASM#64 vol 5, even then, they were about to start a fight up until Spidey arrived and calmed down both of 'em for them to start to work together to begin with lol.

1.) Romance MJ and Pete are finally back together, but they seem to spend very little time together in non-spidey situations (imo). MJ doesn't need to be a hero or spun off into her own solo book. It's OK for supporting characters to just be that, supporting characters. She can still proactively aid her "husband" like when she helped out Pete design a new superhero costume during "Identity Crisis," or helping him work through a mystery like in "Hobgoblin Lives." Otherwise, let's see Pete and MJ in more "adult" intimate situations, like in the 90's or the JMS run of the early 2000's.

2.) Interacting with his co-workers (I miss Pete and Robbie Robertson's friendship, as well, as the rest of the classic Bugle Staff, like Kate Cushing and Glory Grant) I don't mind him having new science lab co-workers, but I want it in a more realistic setting, like ESU, not the crazy "super-science" labs you see in Horizon or Beyond. They should also not treat him like a moron. Ie: the co-workers at Horizon or Parker Industries.

3.) Less Avengers and SHIELD team ups. I don't mind an occasional superhero guest star, but it really feels like it got out of hand in recent years. If Peter needs to globe trot, let it be on his or the Bugle's dime, not the U.S. government. And if he needs allies, let it be more classic reoccurring Spider-man allies. (Black Cat, Silver Sable, Cloak and Dagger) or those "Web warriors" (Miles, Madame Web, etc.) that Marvel is trying to push as the "Spider-Family," but without really doing the work to make it feel organic.

4.) Speaking of which, more Black Cat.

5.) A nice mix of new and classic enemies. When the classic baddies DO appear, they should be written as extremely dangerous.

6.) Hobgoblin and Mr. Fear. I just love these villains, and will buy any book they appear in.

7.) The Black Costume. I will buy any book it appears in.

8.) No more weird Venom events. I have no more interest in all these convoluted alien space God/ "Klyntar" shenanigans.

9.) Romance. Yeah, I already said it once, but it just doesn't feel like a Spider-man comic if we don't see his soap opera love life. It's been part of the book since Lee and Ditko had Betty Brant and Liz Allen vying for his attention. Whether it's Gwen, MJ, Felicia, Debra, etc. It's always been a core part of the series. When it's missing (ala most of Dan Slott's run) you can just feel it.

10: Humor: More humor is needed. I hated the fact that Spencer’s run had no quips. What is wrong with comparing Doc Ock’s hair with Moe from the 3 Stooges?
11: Fewer “Big stories” I had enough of Last Remains type epics. Many of the best Spider-Man stories in history were done in one, two or three issues.
12: More “Victories” for Peter. I do not expect him to win every battle but Peter as a loser ( Slott) or “Damsel In Distress” ( Spencer) got to be too much.
    13: End of OMD.
    14: Get his Phd.
    15: Get a decent job.
16: A resolution to Theresa. Is she his real sister or not? If she is find a use for her ( besides spy stories). If not remove her from the book once and for all.
17: No “Spider family” ( except MJ, Aunt May and if she is really his sister Theresa).
