Liked When Alan Scott & Michael Holt were on the book. Now for a side bar (a long one) I would have loved to have actually seen Roy Harper rejoin Checkmate & as for the future of Checkmate bring in some Wildstorm character like John Lynch, Holden Carver, John Stone, Jackson King and Henry Bendix
Beware of spies traveling through your multiverse especially if they wear a 4
Greg Rucka's CHECKMATE and GOTHAM CENTRAL are absolutely PERFECT 10/10
Greg Rucka's Checkmate was phenomenal. The different characters he pulled in in an organic way. Plus the art was exceptional. At least until Bruce Jones took over and it all went sideways.
Just to point it out...
The current "Checkmate..." title?
It is really "Checkmate..." in name only.
Essentially a whole other thing that they slapped the name on.
There’s really no competition. The original had its moments, but Rucka’s really made the concept sing.
And then Bendis came and…
I'll echo the love for Rucka's run, it's pretty much flawless. I miss Sasha Bordeaux.
"Has Sariel summoned you here, Azrael? Have you come to witness the miracle of your brethren arriving on Earth?"
"I WILL MIX THE ASHES OF YOUR BONES WITH SALT AND USE THEM TO ENSURE THE EARTH THE TEMPLARS TILLED NEVER BEARS FRUIT AGAIN!"
"*sigh* I hoped it was for the miracle."
Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!
I'm aware I'm not saying anything orignal but Rucka's CHECKMATE (with Alan Scott, Mr Terrific and Mademoiselle Marie amongst others) is superb (and actually well worth a re-read so I will have to do that soon!
I've only read Rucka and a small bit of checkmate thanks to Ostrander Suicide Squad. So Rucka all the way.
Le Suck it, Dolphin!
-God I am so tired.
SCOTT SUMMERS AND EMMA FROST DESERVED BETTER.
