I'm reading a lot of older X-Men and X-Factor at the moment and it's great to see a likeable, moral Beast again. The current version is unrecognisable. Was there a slow progression towards how he's written now - basically a villain - or was it just a sudden change? I haven't followed everything religiously so I'm not sure if I missed a storyline that showed his descent.
According to this 2020 article Beast is one of the characters in comics who have never died:

Weird tangent while listening to a podcast talk about the Shooter/Perez storyline, which had me dig out a pile of Avengers...which led me to find these:
I have vague recollections of reading the first issue when it came out, I don't think I've read the entire mini.
Yeah, people have wanted him dead for years. He's been scum for at least a decade now, going back to the Utopia era and this current one has only reinforced some of his worst qualities. With that said, the article is dated and Beast died last year in X-Force

Beast is my favourite Marvel character- at least until recently.
Various attempts to ‘reboot’ him to his more positive self seem to just get shot down by various writers who just seem ready to hate him, which imho is cos they do not know how to write Hank at all and have been defaulting to ******* rathe than the bouncy positive attitude the character was know for. It’s not ‘character devolpment’ to become an asshat.
In my head canon ‘dark’ Henry from AoA has taken Hank’s place- only explanation that makes sense to me.
We need a positive and permanent take on Beast.
