Wonder Woman is mentioned in virtually every list. Which is fair. So I guess who is the second most popular female in DC? Batgirl? Supergirl? Hawkgirl? Zatanna?

I mean that’s a different conversation. Personally, I don’t think I’d choose him as a founding League member, but I don’t hate the idea itself.

Just saying I don't remember many being like, "Cyborg is the best! He sells all kinds of merchandise, etc.!" lol

Well, no, nobody was saying that. I think the very inescapable conclusion is that he was chosen for the sake of diversity.

That's fine. I remember doing a Justice League movie review and told some friends why I thought they chose him as I was the only one old enough to remember that Cyborg was on the cartoon, SUPER POWERS:THE GALACTIC GUARDIANS which was just the continuation of the SUPER FRIENDS. Victor Stone/Cyborg and Firestorm were the 2 young members on the team.

With her new CW show, wonder if Bendis' character, NAOMI, will eventually catch on and become popular?

Toss up between Supergirl and Batgirl.

In the JL, the most iconic woman after WW would be Black Canary.

Believe Black Canary might be a little higher but can definitely see Supergirl being #2 - a case could also be made for the top spot- after having a show run successfully for 7 seasons.

I likewise always assumed SuperFriends/Powers fandom inspired Johns including him in that reboot. Darkseid was the primary antagonist in that show as well. notice that Firestorm (well, Deathstorm) made it into the Crime Syndicate line-up, later in the New 52 JL-run as well. he was clearly a Galactic Guardians fanboy. one might even reasonably suspect the Deathstorm thing as a sign that Johns wanted Firestorm as well, but someone else vetoed it in fear of it leaning too far into the Superfriends idea, while placating him with a Firestorm solo title as part of the same reboot. lol

Good point. His depiction on Super Friends could have been the precursor, but I don’t think that show helped his popularity any.

Cyborg shouldn't be included. I'd replace him with Robin. Most of these characters being listed don't sell comics. Commenters are confusing personal favourite with most popular.

Harley should also be in the big 7 heroes.

I think you could see convincing arguments for both Superboy and Supergirl. It would make sense that Superman would at least attempt to elevate either of them.

I think it depends more on what DC foresees as the right answer.
I feel like it’s whoever they have as the current founding Justice League members in continuity plus Green Arrow.
