Revamp Vicki Vale

If the writers have such low opinions of these characters as you guys, then it's no wonder they write them so poorly.

The thing about classic Vicki Vale that always fascinated me is that between 1948 and 1963, she appeared in about forty stories. Yet halfway, in 1956, Batwoman/Kathy Kane shows up and she becomes the defacto love interest for Batman/Bruce--which makes Vicki not really a love interest. She's just a reporter who's interested in Batman's cases. One would have thought she'd just be retired as was with Julie Madison, Linda Page and even Selina Kyle, now that they had a new female to centre the stories around.

The mystery novelist is Kaye Daye.

That, unfortunately, probably does not help Vicki's image.

Make her a PI like Veronica Mars. One of the big reasons that occurred to me is because on the show she's shown using a camera for photographic evidence a lot.

Sounds like Kaye Daye...but she actually helped Batman with cases.

I do remember one issue of Batman with 2 old ladies...sisters who liked to interfere with criminal investigations. wow, that was so long ago.

Well she hasn't appear recently so just combine them, maybe Kaye Daye is an alias use by Vale like Barbara Minerva using the other Cheetah's names like aliases.

Vicki really deserves her dues and doesn't really need much revamping. But if we want to...she could easily be running her own successful podcast that deals with the ongoings of Gothams elite and transitions over to Batman from time to time. Kind of have her be Gothams Gossip Girl/Wendy Williams type.

that's a good way to update her. i hate to say it but podcasts, blogs and tabloids get more attention these days than traditional news platforms.

And do we really want to go so shallow as a "Wendy Williams type"?

Sadly we're in the era where TMZ breaks news first, The Sun is taken seriously and presidential hopefuls go on celeb podcasts. Podcasting really isn't a downgrade anymore.


As "shallow" as Wendy Williams may seem she's one of the few celeb gossip journalists that uses real sources and doesn't lie or say whatever sticks to get views like a lot of celeb blog sites tend to do these days.

I'd just give her the same kind of job she had in B89: A photojournalist that works with Alexander Knox.

Why bother seriously revamping her when later writers will likely throw that out? Best to pull a Geoff Johns and present the most common pop culture image of her.

In any event, Vicki's profession isn't the problem with the character. And of course she won't gain traction if people are reductive and just write her off as a Lois Lane ripoff.
