An underrated gem in the Bat-Mythos; a former marine with a injured leg with a history with Barbara Gordon. Pre-Flashpoint, it was interesting how they were setting him as Batman's investigator during broad daylight.

When Batgirl's back-up feature in Detective Comics ended in 1972 (after Barbara Gordon was elected to the U.S. Congress), Jason Bard was one of the rotating characters who took over the spot starting in Detective Comics #425 (July 1972).

There was also that period back in 1977-1978 where Jason Bard was working with Kirk Langstrom . . .

    To be continued . . .

Good thread. I like original flavor Jason Bard. There were some good stories with him the 70s.

    Yes, she was.

Back in the pre-CoIE days, they had a child.

Was she a scientist in those days too?

Yep. Post-COIE, they had a second. I didn't care for that, though, especially what was done later with the family dynamic (and kids' relative ages shifting).

Back to the topic - anyone remember the issue where we found out about his mother's murder?

Oh, and I was thinking - it's been a good while since I read those old 'Tec comics, but did it seem to anyone else that Jason dating Barbara was more of an intro/fade-in for the character to get a spot in the comics (as Barbara left for Washington D.C.) than it was a planned long-term romance? Or maybe I'm misremembering the timing?

I think you're forgetting that the story that introduced Jason was in issue #392 (October 1969) while Barbara's last feature in Detective Comics was #424 (June 1972), so Jason and Barbara were together for about two-and-a-half years.
