Amazon Killing it's "sold by third party program"

I'm hoping that this actually creates meaningful change in the industry as a whole. There is no reason for mass market trade paperbacks to skyrocket to hundreds of dollars as soon as they're out of print.

I tend to avoid purchases that are not directly from Amazon. So this is fine by me.

Then again, I tend to avoid buying from Amazon in general. Only things I've bought from them are the occasional book or music cd.

The thread title is misleading.
It should say "Sold by Amazon' 3rd-party-seller program" meaning those sellers who send their product to the Amazon warehouses, for them to be shipped/fulfilled in those recognizable Amazon packages, is the service that is going to be shut down.
It's not a very good service, I've been burned by it, but because it counts as "sold by Amazon" the refunds were on time and to my satisfaction.

Third-party sellers who sell on their own will not be affected by this. To my understanding.

No. You still have the A-Z Guarantee, where you can get your refund if things go wrong, but that means you have to contact the seller first. In most cases, the sellers will work out the problem with you. It is in their best interest too. But if that fails you, as a buyer, are still protected. I switched to Amazon from eBay nearly 20 years ago, and it is still my favorite place for online shopping.
