Marvel has always been afraid that a character like the Human Torch would encourage young, impressionable minds to emulate their heroes. I don't know if a kid ever has tried self-immolation in order to become a real life Human Torch, but anecdotally speaking, growing up I knew this kid who tried to give himself superhuman powers similar to his favorite villain, Electro. I won't go further into details, but it didn't go well for him.
