Perez in his glory. Lots and lots of characters.

    The Original
    Superman
    Batman
    Wonder Woman
    Aquaman
    Hawkman
    J'Onn
    Elongated Man
    Firestorm
    Kid Flash
    Changeling
    Kole
    Vigilante II
    Black Lightning
    Firehawk
    Black Orchid
    AirWave II
    Dr. Light II
    Tempest

    Earth-Two Superman
    Power Girl
    Earth-Two Robin
    Earth-Two Wonder Woman
    Earth-Two Flash
    Earth-Two Green Lantern
    Wildcat II

    Captain Marvel
    Mary Marvel
    The Ray
    Black Condor

    Captain Atom

    Superboy-Prime
    Lady Quark
    Pariah
    Harbinger
    Alex Luthor
All the characters there together where used to cement the idea of one united universe.

And one guy in the Anti-Monitor's right hand I can't identify(!)
The one with red mask? Is Judomaster, in his original clothes. Maybe you saw him recently in Peacemaker.

    The Homage
Contrast that with the new cover. Here are the ones that are the same:
    Superman
    Batman
    Wonder Woman
    J'onn
    Aquaman
    Firestorm
    Hawkman (more or less)
Captain Marvel (that's his name, dammit)
    Alan Scott
    Dr. Light II
    Power Girl

Then you've got, various pre-Crisis creations:
Barry Allen (or is that Wally?)
    Cyborg
    Raven
    Starfire
    Donna Troy
    Adam Strange
    Mr. Miracle
    Jade
    Obsidian
    Batgirl
    Supergirl
    Red Tornado II
    Zatanna
    Black Adam
    Hal Jordan
    Guy Gardner
    John Stewart
    Kilowog
    Arisia

    Some post-Crisis creations:
    Kyle Rayner
    Starman IV
    Conner Kent
    Wonder Girl II
    Booster Gold
    President Superman
    Blue Beetle III
    Hawkgirl II

And a handful of post-Flashpoint creations:
    Jessica Cruz
    Simon Baz
    Wonder Girl III
    Dr. Fate VIII(?)
    Jo Mullien
    Jon Kent
I must add than not every character than repeats appear in the same position than originally appeared. Pariah being the most obvious example, I think. Also, there is also other character than appear and is not listed.

... annnd a Green Lantern I can't quite make out.
Hannu, a Green lantern made of stone. Living stone.

    A few things to note:
    - The mix of characters in the new event is going HEAVY on the "families of characters" thing. Six Superman family characters. Four Wonder Womans. Thirteen Green Lanterns. Titans, JLAers, and JSAers galore. If you're looking for "the wild breadth of the DCU," this cover ain't for you. Frankly I kind of feel like the inclusion of Adam Strange, Captain Atom, Will Payton, Red Tornado, and Mr. Miracle feel almost like a "crud, we'd better include SOME characters outside the JLA/JSA/Titans families" sop.
At least they are using them in the covers.

    - Still they're both very pretty covers.
But the original have a better background work. I correct, it have a background work. The homage have photoshoped FX.

    - I guess all those Green Lanterns are making up for their absence in the original Crisis
Green lantern also was in their own restructuration around that time.
    - Seriously, who's that guy in the Anti-Monitor's right fist in the original?
    Seriously, Judomaster.
    - It's pretty amazing that, in an event story that's trying to push the next generation of heroes, this big ol' battle cover still is primarily comprised of characters that were created over 35 years ago.
But this isn't the big bad. Is a middle boss. The big boss is still waiting in the dark. I mean, it is the dark. There still are chapter to come.

Is that John in yet another new outfit? (it might be the worst one too) He manages to keep new looks for only one or two appearances the last six months.

That’s the one he was in during the Death of the Justice League issue if I’m recalling correctly.

Previously in the last GL series, John became a God. Codename is Emerald Knight.

Not sure if this all still stands for DCOIE.

Don't Worry, Lady Quark will come in and save the day, she has a bone to pick with Pariah.

I like very much Sampere, in fact, his art is the main reason I'll buy this when it comes out in trades, however, the original Perez cover is much more exciting than the homage, IMHO. Perez's cover seems to jump out of the screen. It feels alive. Exciting. Sampere's is pretty, but, IMHO, it lacks energy. It feels like a picture. Still. Perez is still a master.

    Peace

Where is Starman IV in the homage cover? I don't see him but he's been mentioned over and over. Can someone post a larger version of this if possible?

My bad. That's Naomi (I think), not Payton, which makes a LOT more sense. Have I mentioned that my eyes are going bad?

Hey you know I just noticed, the Harley Quinn and Frost panel from issue 3 is kind of the same as the issue Harley had where she goes into space at the behest of Luke Fox and it references Dark Crisis. So does that make Harley Quinn #19 a secret tie-in?

Those proportions on Hal's fist look really weird.

"What D-Word Noun can we put in front of "Crisis on Infinite Earths" that will really cause fans to flock back to DC?"........was this the conversation re: the recent reveal of the "original" name of this event?

You have to wonder when WBDisco will be cleaning house with some Management and Editors at DC...
If you are going to refute, you need to do your own research.

They are really trying to make The Flash and yellow goggles into a thing.
