(How different would things be today if Brightest Day had been properly followed up, instead of being aborted in order to do the New 52? Earth 2011, anyone?)

Only reason I'm still even browsing this trainwreck in the smallest form is just to see if there's ever any indication of another Earth with better versions of the classic characters coming.

I know it's not, but I need some sort of major coping excuse to even scan the events of this story.

By classic characters, what are you referring to specifically?

If they destroy the Multiverse 1/the 52 Orrery, most of the worlds from that Multiverse will either go to Hypertime or the resurrected pre crisis Multiverse 2.

The structure of DC's complete multiversal system depends on the writer of the last event DC's published. With events coming out basically continuously, nothing matters for long as the next event is going to shift things around again.

You don't seem to be familiar with stories such as Generations, Death Metal, Rebirth, Doomsday Clock, Multiversity, and others I probably missed. The nu52 multiversity may have been around since Flashpoint, but it has been changed multiple times and the chances of it remaining the same after Dark Crisis are near zero. Never mind if any other event comes after Dark Crisis.
