Cool! Especially given the queues to get into the Louvre in the first place.

FWIW, there are a couple of famous homages still around for grabbing, like Rembrandt's The Night Watch or The Anatomy Lesson of D. Nicolæs Tulp.

This was way back in 1990 when it was walk right in. No queues, crowded inside but not that bad.

Huh. I spent a couple days in Paris the summer of circa 1991 or so. I looked at the queue and went "no way".

Evening hours worked for us. Short line and not crowded.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

I've seen this painting in person by the way. Its about 10 feet wide by 8 feet tall, a truly amazing work by Delacroix.
It's definitely fear, whether of the horror of death splayed naked before him or something else. It's interesting that the two instances of nudity in the painting represent life and death with more people focusing on the life.
I always wanted to visit the Louvre. You were fortunate.
