The voice Hanks uses at the beginning was a little over the top, but other than that it looked pretty solid.

True. Here's the real Colonel Tom Parker speaking.

For whatever reason, Hanks has chosen to overplay the Southern accent to the extreme. But yeah, it still looks solid.

John Carpenter's 1979 Elvis biopic....always will be my favorite. Such an odd wonderful fusion of Carpenterisms and Elvis.
Things I love: Batman, Superman, AEW, old films, Lovecraft

Grant Morrison: “Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.”

The story is he asked his barber to give him a Freddie Freeman/Captain Marvel Jr haircut. He gave his barber a comic to go by. You probably already knew this, but just in case. And it looks like it'll be part of the flick as well. Lots of stories out about it, or his overall look and costumes, today.

I almost mentioned that in my previous post. Great movie although, if I remember correctly, completely ignored the drug addiction.

But, Kurt Russell as Elvis (dubbed when he was singing). I always pictured Pat Hingle as Colonel Parker because of that movie and didn't know what the real guy looked like until yesterday.

I believe you are correct, been a few years since I saw it. But a review I found says you're right:
With so many details covered, I was surprised that there were two aspects of Presley’s life not really featured in the movie. The first is Presley’s 1968 Comeback Special that essentially reestablished Presley’s relevance in the world of rock and roll. The special is barely mentioned. This could be because the special aired on NBC and this movie was an ABC production. That seems kind of petty me, but it was a different era; there were only three major networks and they were cutthroat and possessive.

The other aspect missing is any mention that Elvis growing dependency on prescription drugs. Not that we needed to see him becoming a junkie like we saw Ray Charles do in Ray or Johnny Cash in Walk the Line, but in omitting this dark part of Presley’s life, it makes him come off more as a tragic figure, as if the world was against him and that his downfall had nothing to do with his own actions. However, I doubt the Presley family would have allowed the film to be made if he came off it too bad of a light.

Hanks always does that with accounts for some reason.

I think one factor is omitting the drug addiction was that it was only two years after Elvis died and they didn't want to portray anything too negative. Plus, it was for television and they apparently needed the Presley family to okay it.

That's not a southern accent. Parker was originally from the Netherlands so Hanks is attempting a Dutch accent.

I fully agree. Studio fear and legal obstacle seem highly likely. And yet despite these handicaps laid on Carpenter, one of the greatest musician biopics ever. A made-for-TV film. Kudos to John Carpenter.

Its likely Hanks is adding a bit of a Dutch accent to it as well since...Colonel Parker was actually born in Netherlands and only came to America at 17-18 years old. So its likely Hanks is doing a mixture of it where the Colonel is trying to project a southern accent himself.
