Even if we look at function and necessity, if we're honest, Batman stories in the last 10 years, as well as most Batman adaptations, proved that Batman doesn't really need Robin. Don't get me wrong, he can have Robin around, and it would definitely help, but he doesn't need Robin to function and not lose himself. And as much as I like all the Robins, I think that's an important take. An adult doesn't need a child to function, not as a crimefighter nor as a person, and a son should never be his father's emotional crutch.
I hoped the entire Tim story in UL 10 would elevate Tim to actually explore himself as something other than the forever Robin, with the understanding that he should be more than Bruce's helper for the rest of his life, but I guess that's not the case.
It's possible Tim would serve as a more grown-up Robin, but there's really no indication something like that would happen, and as things look right now, Tim seems to be going back to Robin mostly because his Drake take was a complete failure.

Well, granted, a lot of the past few years have kind of had an emotionally unstable Batman, so...and, really, even without a traditional Robin they've had to try to workaround it a few times by putting other characters in that role or similar position, which to me shows why Robin's function is important.

It's actually probably for the best that Batman has to interact with different people or get support from a wider net of people than from his teen son.
Robin being the light to Bruce's darkness may work for the victims or people who need comfort that Batman can't provide, but a teen being an emotional crutch for Batman is a take that I believe is way too problematic today.

Very neat, though perhaps still a bit generic (though it's quite nice to see Bruce and Tim on the rooftops!) cover. Looks like they're gonna keep the crazy number of variants up.

Every now and then I get something amazing from Lee, though!

I am very hopeful that we see some connections to the Cheer and The Knight storylines in Zdarsky's run - nothing huge, but something that makes the books feel more reinforced.

His generic Batman is better than many peoples regular.

They really need to tell the variant artists that Tim got his curtain hair again, because when I skim I see Damian
Also, that G March cover, Batman's Doomsday is also Batman's Venom? (and I always thought Batman's Doomsday is Bane anyway)

Really does feel kind of funny that we have Bruce and Damian back together in Shadow War but now Tim is going to be Bruce's Robin again. But I guess Damian's probably not going to stick around Gotham in his solo book.

    Failsafe looks very 90's.

Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!
