I am confronted by the question....If you have a character animated in multiple shows in different styles does that mean there would be multiple Tony Starks in that universe? The one from EMH, the one from Avengers Assemble, the teen from Armored Adventures, etc...

Part of her arc in Marvel Chillers was that she had become accustomed to her Tigra form. She-Hulk went through this phase as well where she just stopped being Jennifer Walters in human form. Personally, I love when Tigra is in Greer form and can still kick ass (as she should being that she had innate abilities long before becoming a she-cat.

Her abilities as The Cat weren't innate, they came from the suit that Patsy Walker later inherited when she became Hellcat.

Greer had treatments, chemical and electric, from Dr Tomolo, which enhanced Greer's human powers.

After that, Greer was sensitive to other people/animals and their feelings/pain, increased concentration, as well as increased senses, strength, speed, agility. Greer also trained athletically.

The costume was supposed to complete the process---but the costume in and of itself---was not enough to give Greer the abilities she had as the Cat. Their was also a certain mindset that was required. That is why Greer succeeded while Shirley did not and fell to her death.

Now, there is a question that has been out there for decades---just how did one of the old cat-suits produced by Donalbain endow Patsy Walker with equivalent abilities of the Cat?

(No answer has yet been provided--other than by the power of suggestion alone--was enough to turn Patsy into what she wanted to be---a superheroine.)

IIRC...it Jennifer was due to a high dose of radiation in a She Hulk graphic novel that prevented her from changing back to human form. But she did not have a problem with it as she preferred being big and green,

Have to admit, Tigra has come a loooooooooong way. I still think she's miscast for the upcoming Defenders series, but I'm glad that she's still widely loved by most fans considering how subjectively bad some of her past story arcs were.

I think the love for her is based off of some select good stories from the 1970s -- and a few from the 80s in West Coast Avengers. The Cat #1 is a great looking book with an interesting story. That origin showed Greer doing everything she could do as Cat -- aside from swinging from her claw cable, scaling walls with claws in her boots and seeing in the dark with a mask.

I think the popular theory is that the Hellcat outfit was something Roxxon Industries developed for whatever reason. Hellcat's outfit had microcircuits woven into the fabric that elevated the natural abilities of the wearer. That was text from a special feature in Rampaging Hulk magazine that showcased all of the females in the Hulk's life. But it makes sense based on Patsy's comments when she first wore the costume. After that outfit had been destroyed, Patsy's abilities were explained as part of natural acrobatic prowess and additional training from Moondragon on Titan.

The Christina X/Mike Deodato Tigra series was the last serious attempt to rejuvenate the character. Nothing done with her in Avengers Academy was offensive, but it didn't much to elevate her either.

By the way, I love the Internet. This page has the great Bruce Patterson illustration from that Hulk magazine -- as well as the text included with that feature.

Do you think it's fair to say she was Marvel's first attempt at a solo flagship female character?

If memory serves, The Cat was the 1st female character and title written and developed by a woman writer at Marvel.

Greer could had been an awesome character as The Cat, who could had been made into a supporting character in Spider-Man's world whose both a Police Officer and close friend of Peter Parker. Keep Greer around Parker in some of the more important story arc and you will get a dynamic that would be unique....

Marvel hired the wrong writer to work on The Cat. It should had been Gerry Conway....

    [IMG][/IMG]

Over 200 issues and more then one follow up series makes "hellcat" one of marvels longest running female series!

Remember when Tigra kisses Hank and Simon on the same day during WCA.
