“X-MEN ADVENTURES” Omnibus Coming Later This Year!!

I was delighted to see that after years of begging Marvel, we will FINALLY be getting reprints of “X-Men Adventures” in December (no doubt to capitalize off the building hype for the upcoming “X-Men ‘97” series on Disney+)! For those unfamiliar, “X-Men Adventures” were the comic book adaptations of the The Animated Series (that sadly ended after The Dark Phoenix Saga) and they were a vital part of my X-Men fandom (as they were the only book that still gave me the X-Men I knew and loved during the whole Age Of Apocalypse saga that had hijacked all the other X-books)! I found it baffling that Marvel had collected the vastly inferior “Adventures Of The X-Men” series (where Rogue was inexplicably missing from the team until a few cameo shots in the final issue) in TPB format recently, but completely ignored the original series that it had spun off of. Thankfully, that long wait for a reprint will come to an end at the close of 2022!

Now if only Marvel could somehow find a way to collect the 6 exclusive mini X-comics from Pizza Hut and the 4 exclusive mini X-comics from Hardee’s in TPB format (since they featured many of the same artists who had worked on “X-Men Adventures”)…

I really liked the artist who drew some of those issues. John Hebert.

He had a distinct style and drew bulky dudes well (e.g., Wolverine, Sabretooth, Cable, Bishop, etc.).

My head canon was that Adventures of the X-men was the "6th season" of the show since they stopped adapting the episodes to comics and completely left out the 4th and 5th seasons

That’s what “Adventures Of The X-Men” was trying to do, by continuing with their own original storylines after the The Dark Phoenix Saga wrapped up. But that book’s biggest sin was making Rogue disappear from the team for no reason. I am assuming since she was already on hiatus from the main X-books at the time (after they returned from Age Of Apocalypse) that the writers more or less forgot all about her until the final issue where she appears in a few frames with no explanation. That title was just handled all wrong (and at the height of Marvel’s financial woes). They were only $.99 to try and sell more copies but the book just wasn’t near as good (plus the artwork took a major downward turn…admittedly as it did towards the end of “X-Men Adventures” as well).
