Aww man. I became aware of him when I saw Altered States, which blew my young mind. Then in The Big Chill, an all-time classic. RIP.

I know him as the first person to die by chestburster in Alien and as Hellboy's daddy in the movie (the good one).

That was John Hurt, British and died 5 years ago.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Great actor and loved him as Thunderbolt Ross. It's a shame....was hoping Marvel could continue to bring him back as Ross

Easy mistake to make. Don't feel bad.

While it's sad that he's passed his body of work was so vast and incredible I look forward to people discovering all the great stuff he did (Dark City, Kiss of the Spider-woman, Body Heat, A History of Violence, Damages, AI, Michael, Gorky Park, Sunshine, etc)

Don't feel badly - I saw that John Hurt was trending the day William Hurt died. I'm going to guess you're not the only one who made that mistake.

Reportedly the cause was his pancreatic cancer. John Hurt also died from the same cause.

I liked him. The movies mentioned Altered States and Big Chill were greats and lets not forget his performance in Accidental Tourist.Too sad.
