Yeah, not to defend John Wayne here, but the story is getting harder and harder to believe.

Watching television is not an activity.
In the Hollywood Reporter article on Sacheen Littlefeather's death, there's a link to an article that examines the claim that John Wayne tried to rush the stage and had to be restrained by six guards. The article concludes that the claim is probably bullshit.
As she was becoming an indelible part of Oscar lore, Wayne “was in the wings, ready to have me taken off stage,” she told the Los Angeles Times in 2016. “He had to be restrained by six security guards.” That may not have been the case, an investigation showed.
What a way to find out Sacheen Littlefeather has passed away. RIP. Maybe now the people who claim her story was bullshit? Will have the balls to ask the people who are still alive and were THERE what happened. But I doubt it.
Here's the thing, Wayne by his own words showed himself to be bigoted toward Native Americans. Whether he rushed the stage or just tried to have her removed, it was none of his damn business how Brando wanted to use his winning speech. It was up to the producers of the ceremony, and they knew she was going on. So Wayne can spin.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!
Hmmm, feels like all the talk about Will Smith/Chris Rock has dried out and now it's turned into a discussion about John Wayne and Sacheen Littlefeather (RIP).
If there is no follow up to the Oscar slap worth talking about it's probably best to let this thread sink and if you're discussing a different topic entirely, create a new thread for it, but don't spam, not every little thought needs a separate thread.

Well, there is a new Will Smith movie coming out soon, it's called Emancipation, which is a little ironic...

Some Oscar voters are saying they'd refuse to vote for Smith, which probably does not help the sense of the artistic integrity of the awards.

The only way to fix this is clearly a rematch between the two in a mud-wrestling bath live on Oscars Night.

The point of the nominations and awards is to honor the best performances. Will Smith slapping Chris Rock has nothing to do with the quality of his work so it should be irrelevant for whether he's nominated.
Doing otherwise opens up all sorts of arguments about other decisions the Academy could do if they openly admit that quality isn't the only factor. Obviously, many voters do that already, but this would make it mandatory.
