If they win it, it will be their first series win against an AL East opponent all year (that includes the Orioles btw). If they don't start winning series against their AL East rivals, they're going to find themselves outside looking in at the Wild Card Race.

Really dislike voting for injured players on the all star team, feels like you're voting to just let Manfred pick whoever he wants

Bello didn't have the most auspicious debut. 4 ER in 4 innings. Didn't help that the Boston bats decided to take the first half of the game off. It's going to take some kind of turnaround to salvage this game and series now, especially with Devers out of the line up again for some reason (2 nights in a row now, but haven't seen anything said about it-I thought yesterday was just a routine day off but not 2 in a row).

Very rough game all around for the Sox. They need to do much better.

The Profar thing was bad. The way he collapsed like a puppet with the strings cut was hard to watch. Hope he's okay.

Yanks win by just two swings of the bat last night in Boston. Red Sox should have come back but they did not. Rough series ahead.

Commissioner Rob Manfred used his exemption to send Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrera to the All-Star Game.

Sox lost because Cordero misjudged and easy pop up in the infield allowing a run to score on what should have been the third out of the inning. That run was the difference.

Well tonight's Sox-Yanks got so out of hand, the Sox had outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. pitching the final inning. On the night Rafael Devers got selected to the All Star team, he had to leave the game because he aggravated a sore back that caused him to miss 2 games earlier in the week, and on a day they placed another starter on the IL (Michael Wacha), the prospect they called up to spot start, Connor Seabold not only got rocked by the Yanks, but had to leave the game with forearm tightness and is probably headed to the IL himself.

Before this streak of games featuring 2 series each against the Yanks and Rays (14 games total) leading into he All Star Break started, I predicted the Sox would go 2-12 and end the first half back behind both the Rays and Jays in the standing. They're 1-4 to start and have players dropping like flies to the IL, are already behind the Rays and now tied with the Jays. They could be 20 games back of the Yanks before the All Star break starts. This is the Red Sox way, a putrid start followed by a sizzling hot steak to get you to hope again, and then another swoon. They've probably got one more streak in them in Aug/Sept just to get folks to keep the hope fires burning, but it will be too little too late for them to really be anything but first round fodder if they even make the playoffs. Rafe is amazing but playing injured again. JD Martinez and Bogey have looked like they are playing with one foot out the door and eyeing their next contract rather than playing to win this year in Boston, and their lack of pitching depth in the organization is being put on display for the whole league to see. Maybe Bloom can get some pitching depth by dealing off JD and Bogey by the deadline (I hate seeing Bogey leave but the Sox indicated they weren't going to give him market value to stay when they signed Story this offseason so it's pretty much a foregone conclusion he plays elsewhere next season), maybe Eovaldi too if he's healthy again as he's a free agent too. But they need to do something to address the pitching depth throughout the organization.

Zach Wheeler outdueled Adam Wainwright while Alec Bohm provided all the offense the Phillies needed with a pair of homers in a 2-0 win over the Cards last night. And with that win, the Phils now have the third NL Wild Card slot.

Back to back shutouts of St. Louis for the Phillies as they nipped the Redbirds 1-0. Kyle Gibson (seven innings) and two relievers held the Cards to all of two hits while Alec Bohm drove home the game’s only run in the ninth.

Color me pleasantly surprised. Jeter beats the Yanks as the Sox walk it off. And the key play was a bobble by the Unsportsman of the Year Josh Donaldson. Couldn't have happened to a nicer person.
