Default Jackson Hyde and Jaime Reyes pushing out legacies

Why does DC love to pretend characters like Garth and Ted Kord don't exist? Readers became fans of these characters for a reason. Doesn't mean that just because they were introduced in the 60-70s or 80s that you shouldn't write for them anymore. Booster Gold and Ted have a friendship that fans have loved. Garth was a Teen Titan and became Tempest. They shouldn't be shoved under the rug simply because they introduce a POC. Write for both characters. That way fans can follow their characters. Also, Jackson was introduced with a girlfriend and later becomes gay because...? Feels like pandering. Straight fans of these characters should be validated just as much as homosexual readers. Otherwise feels like pandering.

You do realise that Blue and Gold exists, right? Ted isn't being ignored! Also, Garth just showed up in Teen Titans Academy, but they're using him for comic relief.

    Short answer, money

Long answer, media synergy = easier marketing, with Jaime and Kaldur, even though not the same as Jackson are both black gay, are the ones known outside comics, coupled with AT&T cutting cost and WB doubling down on sellers like Batman to the point he's 50% of the comic lineup, meaning they're also doubling down on Jaime and Not Kaldur.

Jaime and Kaldur are the Batman in this case, while Ted and Garth are the rest of DC characters

Garth was never THAT popular compared to other OG Teen Titans. Like I'm going through New Teen Titans and I've only seen him the flashback with Russian Starfire.

Also people are trying to use Ted Kord now that he's alive again. Tom King used him Suicide Squad and Digifiend mentioned Blue and Gold.

There's no making everyone happy. Some don't want their characters race bent and want new characters to take on that role. Both were invented to help diversify the DCU and were popular so now they've practically replaced the originals.

Gays usually start out not out of the closet and date the opposite sex. Straight characters still are the majority so Straight fans aren't being left out of anything and if they're still able to be fans of gay characters just as we are fans of Straight characters. If someone cant like him because of his sexuality that's a different issue.

This, plus Garth also showed up in the new Aquamen book.

Ted is in the new Blue and Gold book and I cannot remember when was the last time Jaime showed up anywhere.

Outside of Batman legacies, most other legacies characters are struggling to find a place.

I always love when people try to use this argument, as if heterosexual fans are somehow incapable of reading a story with a homosexual in it. Spoiler: LGBTQ+ fans have been doing this for decades.

Nobody was doing anything with Garth even before Jackson/Kaldur was introduced. The last spotlight story he had that I remember was a one-off Titans issue about him becoming the new king of Atlantis... which was literally just written to add some pathos to his death in Blackest Night a few months later. He was always the odd man out in the original 5 Teen Titans, and it's haunted him ever since.

True. They haven’t really used Garth since Titans/Young Justice Graduation Day, which was 19 years ago.
Does Garth even remember he had a family Dolphin?

He was a main character of the Titans in the Rebirth era.
He was also part of the Aquaman title from the New 52. I don't know where this notion is coming from.

Outside media! Jaime and Kaldur caught on with fans in ways that Ted/Dan and Garth never did! Sometimes that happens. I also don’t get your complaints since Ted and Garth are both being used while Jaime has been MIA since his book ended and Kaldur just recently started getting attention.

You’re probably referring to the DCEU and how Jaime is getting his own film and Kaldur his own series… but that’s just business. They’re the most popular characters of said mantle
Done with DC. Can't handle the constant whiplash! Time to go on a hiatus!

To be FAIR- Ted nor Dan got the shots in outside media.

    Same with Garth.

He was a main character of the Titans in the Rebirth era.
He was also part of the Aquaman title from the New 52. I don't know where this notion is coming from.
Compared to his other Titans-he like Bumblee, Herald and others not named Dick, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy and Cyborg (for all the wrong reasons)-he is an after thought.

I always love when people try to use this argument, as if heterosexual fans are somehow incapable of reading a story with a homosexual in it. Spoiler: LGBTQ+ fans have been doing this for decades.
As have minority fans yet when both sets ask for more-they get a ton of pushback.

Also, Jackson was introduced with a girlfriend and later becomes gay because...?
New 52 took that Jackson away before he got a shot.

Feels like pandering. Straight fans of these characters should be validated just as much as homosexual readers. Otherwise feels like pandering.
Pandering is someone like Moon Knight can get shot after shot after shot without a tv show or movie. Nobody has an issue with it.

Pandering is Deathstroke can guest star on Arrow and get a new run. Nobody has an issue with it.

Yet it's called pandering when it's doing the same with a Static, Black Panther or others of color, sexuality or gender that boast successful tv shows or movies.

I guess we ignore the boost every single Black Panther trade got when that movie came out. The same boost Moon Knight is enjoying NOW.
