This run has an insane slate of artists for how little discussion it generates
It's the Dynamic Duo! Batman and Robin!... and Red Robin and Red Hood and Nightwing and Batwoman and Batgirl and Orphan and Spoiler and Bluebird and Lark and Gotham Girl and Talon and Batwing and Huntress and Azreal and Flamebird and Batcow?
Since when could just anybody do what we trained to do? It makes it all dumb instead of special. Like it doesn't matter anymore.
-Dick Grayson (Batman Inc.)
Well it's such a slow burn that the fire may have in fact gone out already...it's shame too because I typically enjoy Ram's work but this just isn't clicking with me. I dunno, maybe it'll read better in trade.
I feel like the issue with this run is it's wayyyyy too decompressed.
There's appeal in a slow-burn gothic supernatural story but I'm not sure if Ram V quite nailed the execution here.
But decompressed books do tend to read better in the trades .

How much mental breakdown can Batman take between two books!?
The timing makes this pretty unintentionally comical tbh
Like... How many people does Bruce have inside his mind right now?
Hurt showing up got me interested again.
For when my rants on the forums just aren’t enough: https://thevindicativevordan.tumblr.com/
The actual main story of Detective was as horrible as ever but man those back ups were great. Both the Question story and the Azrael story were fantastic and I'd much rather those writers getting the spotlight over Ram's nonsense.

"Has Sariel summoned you here, Azrael? Have you come to witness the miracle of your brethren arriving on Earth?"
"I WILL MIX THE ASHES OF YOUR BONES WITH SALT AND USE THEM TO ENSURE THE EARTH THE TEMPLARS TILLED NEVER BEARS FRUIT AGAIN!"
"*sigh* I hoped it was for the miracle."
Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!
