Thoughts on the Johnny Depp and Amber Head situation

Like I said, I haven't really been given keeping up with the trial as much as some, but has the court actually made the verdict that she lied? Isn't that the whole point of this case? Sure, a number of posters on the Internet have been convinced that she lied, but that's not the same the same as actually been proven that she lied.
I have no stake as to who comes out on top here. But it's clear that many (maybe not you) are leading with their fandom here. And I find that highly disturbing.

There's a literal recording where she admits to being the one who has attacked him and lied about one of the incidents in question.

And, not to be funny, but if you aren't really paying attention to this then you probably shouldn't be making any assumptions as to what's really going on.

Unless you actually know what happened (which let's face it, no one here actually does) we don't know any sort of particulars like that. All I'm saying is that people seem to be are automatically jumping to the defense of someone just because they're a fan (I'm a big fan of his '90s work, myself). If the court decides in his favor, then good for him. My point will still stand, though. If history has taught us anything, it's that the people most likely to get away with things are the people who have the most money and influence to do so.

Your last paragraph isn’t really worse than someone who might have immediately jumped to Heard’s defense just because “woman.”

Neither are fair, but you’ve admitted you haven’t been paying attention to the case, so…there’s that as well.

Depp doesn't do safe roles. He has taken chances his whole career on things and at times he's failed and at times he's applauded. But at the end of the day he's still a talented "cat" and can do a role as we saw with Black Mass.

He was in Dead Man, Blow and Donnie Brosco. All received praise. I liked Blow particularly. He definitely has talent outside the fantasy genre.

Yes, and remember Depp already went to court in England and lost because they decided Amber Heard had proven most of her allegations (enough that at least the Sun could call Depp a wife-beater without being slander).

Now, that is absolute proof that Heard is completely innocent, a saint or whatnot? Of course not. It's pretty clear the two of them are horrible people. Which is what makes root for either of them just stupid.

Right, and if you offset that with Amber's limited victory, it's really $8,350,000 that Depp won.

The odds of Depp winning a defamation case was low. A fact many legal people questioned why Depp was doing this since the odds of legit winning this was low. (The NY Post literally made fun of him for doing this weeks ago)

The odds were hardly against him considering how much money he was and how much the entire world has practically deified him.

We shouldn’t also ignore that Heard was also awarded a victory against Depp too.

Long and short of all this, it was a bad relationship that’s going to cost both of them millions of dollars.

Anyway, Amber Heard’s portrayal of herself as the recipient of one-sided abuse sounded like nonsense. The timeline of events plus actual recordings didn’t support what she claimed at all.

Her “reactions” on the stand didn’t help either. Yes, it’s been memed to death but it didn’t look real. It also didn’t help that Heard has a very,very ugly history of physically attacking her partners and Depp does not.

It’s fairly obvious that she used the weight of the “MeToo” movement against Depp which was a pretty nasty thing to dol
