Pre-Crisis it turns out that the Purple Ray could used for that very thing. I had not encountered that before but now I see that the WW One Million issue was actually a call back to that.

I like having them have their own healing technologies and techniques for injuries other than death and the most recent take on the Well of Souls birthing new Amazons occasionally is interesting.

Yes. While the Purple HEALING ray is for those alive, the Amazons could modify it into the Black Ray of Return for those who have died.

Problem is that Hippolyta's death wasn't and isn't important. Because this event was poorly writen. And WW has to die yet again. So who could truly care about things like these at this point?
