Default Dell / Whitman / Gold Key Comics

How about a thread for the old dell/ gold key / whitman comics with four color comics (1000 issues!), disney, tom and jerry, popeye and the gold key heroes? Anyone collect these or have memories of them?

I collect a handful of the Dell/Gold Key stuff-any Uncle Scrooge related comics, any of the Four Colors with Alex Toth art, The GK Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers stuff, Tales of Sword and Sorcery-Dagar the Invincible, the Gold Key Tarzan issues, Boris Karloof anf Twilight Zone horror anthologies, The Occult Files of Doctor Spektor, any Scooby Doo related comics, etc.

They are such an artifact of their times, and aside form a handful of the Whitman label comics I got inthe polybagged three packs, I never saw these on the stands or got to read them as a kid.

    A few favorites I have...

I collect their super hero shared universe. Really loved Dr. Spektor series.

I had a fair amount of Gold Keys and maybe a lesser amount of Whitmans, but I had a really big collection of Dells. I read them to death, back in the day. They all got stolen during a move in the late 1960s. In addition to all the wonderful Barks stories (probably on about their third go-round), there were some Dells with great Alex Toth art. Western Publishing was comics, in that era (in terms of monthly sales).

Wish dc comics would reprint the old hanna barbera comics.

How are they breathing in space (no glass on the ship it looks like also) and if George or astro falls they are doomed?

My dad has a lot of Dells in his collection. From the Disney and Warner Brothers to the B Western stars that were popular when he was kid like Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. He also had a large Fawcett collection but he left that part at the farm when he moved out and it was discovered by my cousins when they were young and no more Fawcett comic book collection.

He still buys the Dells on ebay. I found this out because he took me to his computer one day and said, check out this journey this package took. They went from Chicago to Philadelphia to San Francisco to Detroit to Cleveland to Pittsburgh to him. I asked him what was it and he said some comics he bought on ebay.

And I've bought some of the Warner Bros and Disney ones on ebay but I go for the cheap, read, falling apart variety that I can read. He goes for the nice ones and usually the westerns.
