I think if they must, "Might" could be a good alternate to Marvel.
Mary Might for example. And Black Adam's previous codename has been stablished as Mighty Adam, so it would fit.

After the Shazam: Fury of the Gods disaster, I think they should ditch most of the Johns’ New 52 changes that inspired the movie and return the character to his more classic form.

I’m happy to hear Waid is gonna make it so Billy once again can’t say “Shazam” without transforming/calling down the magic lightning. Apparently Mary Marvel will refer to him as Captain or Cap. That’s a good start for moving away from him just being called Shazam. I know a lot of people like him just being called Shazam but I think they’re going to have to mix things up if they want the IP to survive after the movie embarrassment.

The extended Shazam family needs to be reduced. Keep Mary, Freddy, and Darla but de-power and phase out Eugene and Pedro.

Make Billy younger. No more angsty teenage Billy. Shazam is a childhood wish fulfillment character. A kid gets to say a magic word and transform into a Superman-like hero with all sorts of amazing powers. Focus on that.

Tone down his goofiness when in his adult form. No more overly quippy smartass Shazam.

What about codenames? It gets easier with only four instead of six. Just give Darla the Jr moniker? Freddy uses CM3, or swap the M for another letter if Billy and Mary use a name other than Marvel?

If Captain Thunder is now legally available for DC (after so much time being unavailable to them), then absolutely they need to grab it. By far the best option.

If Captain Thunder is NOT legally available for DC, then Shazam is fine.

The golden age (Fawcett) stories also featured the Lieutenant Marvels.
If Billy is going to be "The Captain", why not call Mary, Freddy and whoever else still has powers "The Lieutenants". At least there is some precedent.

That could be fine (and I like Captain Thunder), but how would you differentiate the 3? They all can't go by Lieutenant Marvel/Thunder.
