That's the way I see it. It's not the main DCU and aimed at children...so I'm gonn treat this as a Elseworld.

The story is to bland for me and is taking to long to tell an by the numbers story. The artwork is nice but the Teen Titans seem random and somewhat unnecessary.

It's not the way I would wrote the story but I'm glad she getting used.

The concept of Zambesi is basically to be a stereotypical African country, I don’t see the harm in transferring its role in Vixen’s origin to Ghana. That’s actually where Anansi comes from so if anything it further grounds the character in real history. It’s not even just that Zambesi isn’t as prominent as Wakanda in Marvel lore. It’s simply not foundational to Vixen character in the way Wakanda is to BP.

Wakanda is where T’Challa lives, he’s a king there, his closest friends and family are mostly Wakandan, most of his stories circle back to defending Wakanda in some way. Vixen in comparison is a globetrotting superhero fashion model with global business ventures and a free spirit. You could replace Zambesi with Ghana or Nigeria and nothing of true value is lost because it’s ultimately just a backdrop for her origin story. Outside of the stories where she returns, she doesn’t have much to do with the country.

With Beast Boy brought in, I wonder if Animal Man might also make an appearance.

Be pretty cool to bring in the Red and showcase a connection of Vixen's powers to the Red.

I just got bored in the first issue. It was the same with Batman Family Adventures so maybe Webtoons isn't for me. But if it creates more Vixen fans I'm cool with it.

    I don't mind her being a teenager.

-Anissa and Grace are so bad ass in this. 'Oh I'm sorry, is this not as much fun when your victims fight back?'. I would love to see a spin off with just these two. I love Anissa's design in this and how smart and capable she was during this situation.

-The guy whom posters in this thread were saying was a black Deadshot turned out to Aku Kwesi from 'Vixen: Return of the Lion' mini series all along.

-NGL, it is a little weird to see Marie being 'tutored' by Grace Choi here since in canon it would likely be the other way around.

-Aku Kwesi returning to his HQ only to discover how hard everything has backfired was hilarious.

-I like the pacing of the web comic so far. The inclusion and reference to the greater DCU felt organic and did not detract from Marie.

-Looks like Karen is not Bumblebee in this universe (at least, not yet) and does not know Beast Boy yet.

-I think there is some validity to the criticism of Vixen being African American as opposed to African in this web toon. I was reading the comments on Casually Comics Sasha's YT review of this series and some of the commenters, particularly ones from Africa, did ask why the comic felt the need to change her background to be more American when she could have just been a transfer student from Africa. Anissa, Karen, Jennifer and Karen are all African American but Marie is one of the few who are not born in America.

Still, I enjoy this web comic so far. It's too late to change her backstory for this universe but hopefully they do better in upcoming projects.

I'm sure there is some validity but personally as an African, she was not a real African character before. Comics are filled with fake Africans from fake countries that are either stereotypical or mix different cultures that wouldn't make sense geographically. It was fine to do it in the 70s or 80s because there was not that information about Africa and some countries weren't even independent but now it's tone deaf.

If there change it again in future projects I hope she's still from Ghana.

It's weird seeing Mari's parents alive.

I hope Mari grows into herself as a hero soon and gains her Vixen swagger, although I guess it depends on how they want to progress the series/plot and the pacing.

What would make Vixen more African to you?

Being from a specific culture instead of just ambiguously African. Specifically Akan because Vixen's character is inspired by Anansi. Other DC characters inspired by culture's folklore/myths make it clear which culture they are inspired from (Diana and Greece, Dr Fate and Egypt).

Characters that are ambiguous just play into the idea of Africa being one big country or their cultures are interchangeable.

    I agree with this.
