Ways in which the retcon could happen:

1. An eternal will kill her and she's going to hatch from a mutant pod this time.
2. Jean Grey will read her mind and tell her she's really a mutant.
3. Sinister had manipulated her genes in Secret Warriors and made her a mutant.
4. She was dreaming the whole thing.
5. She was able to enter a Krakoan Portal manipulating her genes, becoming a mutant in the process.
6. The Scarlet Witch whispers in her ear "Now you're a mutant."
7. A bubble from that tree explodes accidently. The ooze covers her turning her into a mutant.

It's a Ms. Marvel/Wolverine book, so it's not surprising we're seeing the X-Men. Not saying a retcon won't happen, but I don't think this image alone is proof of it.

You know, number 3 actually sounds interesting and wouldn't feel far fetched, 'cause that's exactly the type of thing that would normally happen in the Marvel Universe.

Andrews said they decided to create a Marvel Zombies spinoff because of people loving the episode and the show's cliffhanger ending. Zeb Wells is writing the project, and Andrews praised his work. Meindering said workign on the zombies in the first season "was one of the best parts of that season." The zombies were then shown off through art. One included Hawkeye, a Captain America who was cut in half, Abomination, Ghost, Scarlet Witch and Captain Marvel. Additionally, Okoye appears as a zombie. The heroes in Marvel Zombies will be Yelena Belova, Katie, Kate Bishop, Red Guardian, Jimmy Woo, Death Dealer, Shang-Chi and Kamala Khan. Khan will play a big role in the series. The show will introduce a post-apocalyptic Widows team, a Skrull biker gang and Ikaris from the Eternals.

"Katie, Kate Bishop" isn't a typo, they probably meant Katy from the Shang-Chi movie, who doesn't exist in the comics.

In fact this team is basically Kamala and Hawkeye teaming up with the casts of the Black Widow and Shang-Chi movies.

Apparently Kamala got the biggest cheers when she was revealed on screen so that's a much needed relief <3 Hopefully people are checking out her live action show now that the first season is done airing.

I hope they handle this better than the What If episode, but I feel like this will still be as quippy and cutesy judging by the designs/animation.
