January 6 Hearings and Fallout

I didn't realize that most of the hearings would be held during normal work hours. Watched the recap, and not sure if it held the same impact as watching the entire hearing would have.

Maybe this weekend I can binge-watch what I missed from Cspan.

I have to catch up on this too. But reading babyblob and WBE's post have me worried to hear the degree to which people have been blinded by the propaganda generated by Trump and his sychophants in the GOP. I am so afraid that they will get away without being prosecuted. I don't know how this works but I assume they can be indicted by the DOJ once this is over. I don't know why they've been hesitant to pull the trigger on this. It seem to me that they could have subpoenaed the testimony and rounded up the usual suspects.

Nixon was aware enough of the gravity of his situation and did the right thing by resigning once he heard from guys like Senator Goldwater. Trump is going to go nuclear and get worse I'm afraid. But he should pay for his crimes by being unable to run for the office of President ever again. I know that is not a law or anything but it should be.

I mean, they'll likely not cover it, but take a racist swipe about the "so called innocent victims" before covering all the things they'd like to talk about, like Triumph the Insult Comic Dog getting arrested.

Right now, there is nothing about yesterday's hearings on the FoxNews dot com frontpage. There is a small link to "Jan 6 Committee" under "hot topics" but the only story about Jan 6 on the front page is Tucker Carlson asking if there really is a difference between the Jan 6 tourists and Colbert staffers.

He had a lot of access to Trump, his family and advisors in the 2020,election and after and there is talk that there is never before seen film from the 6th. Turns out a lot of Trumps circle had no idea there was a Documentary being shot and were blindsided by the revelation of this footage.

I suspect they’ll stick with the big lie. At this point in the proceedings, they have no choice, turn on Trump and they risk becoming targets for his deranged followers. They saw what happened on 1/6, what with that mob having set up a gallows for Mike Pence, so they know they wouldn’t be safe should they wind up on Trump’s hit list. To quote a line from the 1999 remake of The Mummy, “It is better to be the right hand of the devil than in his path”.

You already had people "turn on Trump" as soon as they were under oath, like Jason Miller. Having the initial hearings behind closed doors was genius.

There is also the fear that one juror who likes Trump is going to be enough for a hung jury. They don't want to give anyone the excuse.

Good point. I fear that scenario more than I do the case being heard by a Trump friendly judge who might give TFG a get out of jail free card.

There is some talk about how Trumps team did not know that they were being filmed for this doc they are going to show video of Thursday.

I am just thinking. How the Hell did they not know? How did they not notice the film crew following Trump, Pence and their lackeys around?

My thought? They knew they were being filmed. They knew they were talking about illegal crap and they wanted it filmed so that they can record their saving of America moments. They thought they were going to get away with this and wanted this film to show to school kids in 20 years.

My fear is that these hearings are going to end with the Democrats having presented a truckload of evidence clearly showing a legitimate conspiracy to overthrow the election and leave it up to the Republicans to exact whatever penalty is called for and they will summarily dismiss the whole lot.

I fear a similar scenario. Trump still has a lot of these GOP toadies under his pudgy thumb and a lot of the base is blind to his lies and are easily misdirected.
