This splash page from the most recent issue of X-Force pretty much sums up why Cable rocks:

Cable: "I got this."

He's a guy who takes charge and does what needs to be done. Like Wolverine combined with the Punisher in that regard, but also a strategic and tactical genius; so it's like they threw in a dash of Batman too. Hell, in addition to being an accomplished soldier the guy also got a law degree in his spare time. Just because.

With Wolverine dying, I can't decide if it would be cool if Cable got Doc Nemesis to put a set of these laser claws into his cybernetic arm or not...

What happened to Cable?

He was one of (still is I guess) the coolest looking characters and was actually popular for a time. I haven't read the new X-Force because I really hate the designs.

Is there anything happening with him in Secret Wars?
