So many ways to develop Simon. And it'll be interesting how they do it apart from the Avengers.
I'm happy to see them finally doing something with my boy Simon .
I'm guessing Grim Reaper will probably be in this too.
Ironically, Simon was one character who actually did start out as a villain because of Tony Stark. That's been played out by now and Stark's dead, so I wonder how they'll do it. (I mean, part of me thinks they might still blame Tony somehow but they'll likely go the actor/stuntman route with Simon rather than failed industrialist)
So guess grim reaper will show up and maybe arkon?
Will vision show up? He has ties to wonder man.
Also get the feeling wonder man and grim reapers early comics are about to go up in price. Want them you better grab them now!
Which of these elements are essential to a Wonder Man adaptation?
- Failed industrialist who breaks the law
- Complicated relationship with his brother
- Starts out blaming Tony Stark
- The Masters of Evil or Zemo giving him powers
- Simon as a being of ionic energy (as opposed to some other powers a la Ms Marvel)
- Dying then coming back to life
- Involvement with the Avengers
- Relationship with Wanda and/or Vision
- Pacifist
- Actor/stuntman
Simon deserves to be on the big screen. This is Wonderful news. Let us hope they do right by Simon.

Like a Red Dragon, The Phoenix shall Soar in 2024!
I think better questions than "What's essential to a Wonder Man adaptation?" are "What can be used as an essential 'hook' for an MCU Wonder Man?" and "What parts of the character and his mythos can still be used here?"
I think ultimately they're going to go with Simon as an actor/stuntman. The show will probably be about superheroes through the lens of Hollywood.
As for what's left. Well, the Avengers are disbanded. Beast isn't likely to show up. Wanda and Vision probably won't be involved until after Wanda sorts out whatever her current deal is. So, I think the bits we can count on are the actor part, the Grim Reaper and maybe the embezzling thing. Zemo's a much shakier maybe and I think they would need time to work up to deaths and resurrections and him being an energy being.
The bolded (in my opinion).
I don't think they can pull off making him an outright villain and there's no Masters of Evil, but I think he should still get his powers from some kind of villainous organization or group.
You can't use Tony and frankly I don't see Wanda ever loving anyone other than Vision at this point. It would be interesting to see him meet Vision even if I don't think they'll ever incorporate the brain pattern plot point.
I am kind of curious how many of the Disney+ heroes will gravitate to the inevitable new Avengers team.
Arrogant man learns humility and attempts to use their powers to atone for past misdeed is a staple of Marvel stories.
Simon is straightforward enough; failed businessman and actor gets a career boost thanks to experiments that grant him super powers but he later learns that it's killing him and he has to do the bad guys bidding if he wants to survive.
If they want an actor besides Nathan Fillion for the role they could re cast the latter as Eric William/Grim Reaper or go meta and claim that Simon was his overlooked stunt double or go with the claim that they both share the same name (ala Michael Douglas and Michael 'Keaton' Douglas) and that's another reason why his career never took off.
For heroes they could have She Hulk cameo in this. Or even White Vision or Wong (since this is apparently Phase Wong). Or use this as a vehicle to introduce Beast, Heracles or Dazzler. Herc and Amadeus Cho meeting in this could be fun. Maybe Spider-Man swings by and makes a crack at the filming of an in-universe Spider-Man documentary. A Daredevil or Luke Cage appearance could be fun (although I'm not sure if they've ever interacted with WM).
What would be absolutely hilarious though is if Simon meets Nick Fury in this (or Talos disguised as Fury) and later he sees SLJ as SLJ somewhere and calls him Fury prompting 'I'm not Nick Fury. Who is that anyway? Do I look like Fury to you?'.
