This guy may actually be a Marvel character but I wanna say he’s DC.

It was a guy w. again I wanna say … speed and or energy manip?

As he got older he started getting dementia and or Alzheimer’s and was becoming a danger to himself and others.

Unsure if he was main universe or some alternate reality….

The story itself was current(ish), though the character may have been written as being around at an earlier time.

Holy Nertz i finally found it!

His name was Ace Masterson AKA The Human Dynamo…

…and he was a member of The Justice Experience, a little known team that succeeded The JSA and preceded The JLA. He was super strong, had superspeed and stamina, could manipulate electromagnetism, absorb energy, and simulate flight using what he called jump bursts.

Unfortunately…:

In his advanced age, Ace began to experience symptoms of dementia. Realizing his powers could become dangerous without the mental faculties to control them, Ace decided to end his life on his own terms. Seeking a demise worthy of a true hero, he put out a contract on himself, hiring Deathstroke to deliver a warrior's death.
