Default DC Magical and Mystical Thread 2022

Gods, sorcerers, demons, angels, ghosts, elves, Amazons, vampires, werewolves and a whole bunch of others. You name it, chances are DC's got it. An appreciation thread for all things, fantastical, supernatural, mystical and magical in DC. Whether it be Wonder Woman and her Amazons, Amethyst of Gemworld, the Enchantress, Etrigan the rhyming demon. All are welcome.

I liked the Kid Eternity arc in "Urban Legends". It's a continuation of Lemire's National Comics issue from years back. But it's not essential to enjoy the other.

Gotham by Midnight was an great urban horror comic. Batman needs more horror in his books. I'm curious what Ram V has cooking in his Detective Comics arc. His Swamp Thing was decent.

I wasn't fond of WW joining JLD but it grew on me.

    I haven't read Shadowpact yet.

    Does the Sandman Universe count?

I like John Constantine but he works better outside the DCU than in it to me. But he's got 5 other analogues that could be used so it's not a big loss.

I liked the Question's Urban Shaman angle from the 2000s miniseries so I'd explore that more.

The new Black Adam series started out promising.

    I don't see why it shouldn't.

seems like a great place to remind everyone that Garth (Tempest) is the most powerful Atlantean Mage ever.

DC's Magic side is underrated. Shout to my new favorite hero so far.

Would like to see Garth and also Shazam to interact more with other mages. Perhaps joining or guest starring in JLD

Garth got a good showing in 'JLA: Obsidian Age' imo. His interactions with Zatanna made me wish we could see them interacting more.

DC's supernatural stuff blows my mind.

Starting off with my all time fav book:

Also I' trying out the recent Dr. Fate Khalid Nassour. THe artstyle has that darkened, something magical flair to it.

DC has a number of mystical and magic teams. What should each one's main focus be?

Why do they need to have a focus? If some criminals decide to rob the bank they shouldn't ignore them just because they aren't "magic threat".

I would say the sentinels of magic even though I never read the comics. I've only read Justice League Dark, which I did enjoy though i hate the name of it.

I'd like to take the opportunity of this thread to remind everyone that Doctor Occult is a character that deserved more attention and development.

It's just to avoid redundancy with other super teams.

You know, I feel like DC's Magic side could be a pretty big niche in the company. Marvel spends a lot of time developing the cosmic side, and since Green Lantern pretty much dominates the Cosmic/Sci fi stories and with the stories seemingly getting less popular that leaves an opening for the mystical stuff. My only hope is they don't make everything so depressing. I get magic can be pretty dark and disturbing, but not every story needs to be about magic being a curse and only bringing destruction.
