    Default ASM 5 (#899) Discussion

    Another good issue, finally.
    Issue 4: Tombstone screws Spider-Man / Issue 5: Spider-Man screws Tombstone.
I feel Peter's mysterious situation is leading to him being more reckless and aggressive. The scene of his confrontation with Tombstone is very weird for the "classic" Spidey, but his plan involving Digger is a great idea. Unfortunately, I think this storyline is done after this issue, and Zeb Wells will focus on something else for ASM #900.
    Please Marvel, keep this quality.

It was a better issue, I do like Peter's conversation with Tombstone, and at least they're partially walking back on "Everyone's mad at Pete" with Felicia and May

This was a fun issue, nice to see some Felicia facetime and I really enjoyed the banter between Tombstone and Spidey. Zeb really writes Pete in the mask very well. Still, would love to start getting some hints about the "mystery" as we're 5 issues in, and I'm getting used to the status quo and caring less about what happened to make everybody upset at Pete in the first place.

JRJR on art is unfortunately a minus, it just feels so rough for a Spider-Man book after we had Gleason and Gomez in beyond.

I loved his Spider-Man and Thor in the 90s but not so much now, Gleason would be my pick followed by Larraz.

As for the story, thank god this is finished because it felt like a 2003 story that will be forgotten in a month.

Also, who actually cares about this “mystery” anymore, it’s not even gripping or interesting but just meh. The book just feels like some mini series right now where nothing in it matters.

    Bring on Ed and 900.

These five issues were really great when you read them in one-go. I can see a little why people were giving Wells grief in the past threads but this Tombstone/Spidey was well put together.

Not a fan of the status quo; it makes Beyond seem pointless.

Yeah, the Tombstone/Gang War stuff was on-point

But you could have told this story with Peter and MJ together. The Black Cat scene could easily have been MJ's lines

Well, MJ wouldn't ask Spidey for a rooftop chase...

Anyone think this truce with Tombstone will blow up in Peter's face?

A lot of things have so far. Hell, something blowing up in Peter's face big-time started his situation in this current run in the first place, so . . .
The spider is always on the hunt.

Of course. Plus I'm pretty sure, since Tombstone was dealing in supervillain costumes and accessories and we saw he had Electro's and Mysterio's things, that by sending Digger to bust up Tombstone's operation it will lead directly to the Super Adaptoid in next issue.

Ah, but we've seen MJ's capable of feats similar to Felicia per Jed's Beyond tie-in

People shat on zeb way too hard those first issues. Thus ending up being a rock solid arc.
