Default RIP David Warner (voice of Ra’s al Ghul In Batman: The Animated Series)

David We’re sad to report that actor David Warner has passed away.

Warner was a veteran of stage and screen, with a career that spanned the better part of seven decades. With an instantly recognizable voice, Warner immortalized the character of Ra’s al Ghul with generations of fans, as his Annie Award-nominated performance on Batman: The Animated Series was one of the most acclaimed among an ensemble that received no end of praise. He reprised the role on Superman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond, and like Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill in their respective roles, Warner has become widely recognized as the definitive voice of the Demon’s Head.

Lending his talents to countless projects over the years, Warner appeared in films and television series that spanned a variety of genres. Notable big screen performances include appearances in Titanic, Time After Time, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, Tom Jones, The Omen, Time Bandits, Tron, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, a different role in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Scream 2, and Mary Poppins Returns. On the small screen, Warner appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Murder She Wrote, Twin Peaks, and a number of other series, and lent his vocal talents to beloved animated series like Gargoyles, Captain Planet and the Planeteers, Dinosaurs, Mighty Max, Spider-Man, Biker Mice from Mars, Men in Black: The Series, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Freakazoid, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, and Teen Titans Go!

David is THE Ra's Al Ghul voice for me. Perfect choice by BTAS, with Warner having that urbane and sophisticated style, but also able to capture Ra's fanatical voice. Warner should be remembered for so many performances, and he was a true working actor.
Things I love: Batman, Superman, AEW, old films, Lovecraft

Grant Morrison: “Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.”

He had such a memorable voice and such sheer charisma, and he really added such an air of sophistication and gravity to whatever characters he played, and to me he will always be the definitive Ra's Al Ghul.

    RIP David Warner.

Aside from his great performance as Ra's, Warner did great voicework in Gargoyles. His roles in Star Trek and Penny Dreadful also made a lasting impression on me. He will be missed.
