(I'm going to chalk that up to a DC Editorial House Style rather than Zdarksky - I've seen similar "but what if the readers are morons and can't follow a basic implication or theme?" bit of wordiness in a couple of other titles recently, and can't remember Chip resorting to it in other work.)

Yes, King didn't pay attention to what other writers did either, so I don't think anyone owes it to him to remember what he did.
All the stuff King got wrong about Flashpoint alone makes you wonder if he even read it before putting it in his story.
