You're right, my memory was off. Lake Baikal, Siberia - After re-reading my black and white reprint volume.
I probably thought Ukraine because it was the breadbasket of the Soviet Union, but I forget the attitude of the times. One part of Africa is pretty much the same as any other, Russia has 2 places of note (Moscow and Siberia), and magical Ireland means leprechauns. So glad that's over.

Speaking of X-men, what about Sam Guthrie aka Cannonball? He is a hillbilly who grew up in a rural coal mining town of Kentucky. He used to be a coal miner when Professor X recruited him and his father was a coal miner. Wouldn't it make him a Republican?
For starters...
Coal miners in the eighties.
Past that?
You are talking like that blade could only have one edge...

Yeah the attitudes of Coal miners in the 20th century are different from those ones in the 21st century. Coal miners believe that climate change legislation is hurting their livelihood, therefore they become climate change deniers.
Sam Guthrie was going to work in a coal mine on his first day following his father's death until he manifests his mutant powers.
Why would somebody from a family of coal miners in Kentucky (and he's never entered college efore starting to work in a coal mine) support climate change legislation?
Lois as a Republican? Maybe Libertarian in some sense, but I don't see that in her character. Diana? Maybe, MAYBE a Teddy Roosevelt/Ike Eisenhower/Lincoln style Republican (more liberal, but not afraid to "punch in the nose" so to speak). But considering she's not an American citizen, I don't think she can actually register.
Bruce, neither big party really fits him, and his anti-gun/no kill views run contrast to Libertarian views. So, Independent. He's more about the individual than the overall party.
Clark... Er, that brings up a number of issues. Namely, voter fraud.
This also serves as a reminder of just how fast the Republican party has shifted. 2008 was the year Obama was elected - and despite how badly Dubya may have messed up in other areas, he also had a sizable minority backing in his previous election. Dubya had appointed the first African American secretary of state in his first term, the first African American woman to replace him, the first Hispanic AG, and, well, you probably get the idea. QAnon, MAGA, even the TEA Party hadn't come into existence yet.
Basically, the Republican party of 2008 is little like the one we have today.
Funny about Clark Kent and voter fraud, but he has probably been a citizen since childhood. The only difference between being a naturalized citizen and a natural born citizen is the inability to legally become President.

Superheroes and their party affiliations?
Joker's a Socialist (according to the Harley Quinn show) and when he becomes mayor of Gotham City, he dissolves Gotham's police force, fires Jim Gordon, arrests Bruce Wayne for tax fraud, and gets the super criminals into rehabilitation programs. Surprisingly, he makes a pretty good mayor, and I guess that's in character for him because he's politically correct when the plot calls for it, and he hates Nazis (and probably fascists).
I'm just happy he's not usually the good guy; otherwise I'd probably hate the heavy-handed political messages. I'm also wondering what the Harley Quinn show has against Bernie Sanders, since they compared Joker's campaign to his?
