Man Maholmes was just flat out crazy last night, I loved watching him.

And word is the NFL is going to redo their concussion protocols after the Tua Mess.

It’ll be interesting to see how those protocols are reworked. Improvements definitely need to be made after the debacle with Tua.

Niners leading the Rams 7-3 after the first quarter. By the by, the Niners are wearing their jerseys from the 90’s which I never liked.

Agreed. Their 80s unis were always the best, and most iconic.

Best Rams play of that game was the animal-rights activist guy getting flattened by Bobby Wagner. Rams played horribly on defense, and their o-line is hurtin for certain. They usually don't do well against the 49ers, but still.

Stafford doesn't look right. Another pick six. And the offense without OBJ seems like it's "Kupp, then maybe Higbee, then...???"

They need more from that group.

Yeah, there's a definite dropoff in talent with the receivers after Kupp, and it's quite glaring.

Through the first four weeks, one storyline is clear about the 2022 NFL season...

    PARITY.

We don't know what the majority of teams are.
Teams that have been perennial playoff teams have slipped a tad. (Green Bay, Tampa Bay, New Orleans, LA Rams, Indianapolis, Tennessee, New England, Baltimore, Cincinnatti)
Teams that were thought to be terrible are overachieving expectations. (Atlanta, Seattle, Chicago, NY Giants, NY Jets, Jacksonville)
Teams that were preseason trendy Super Bowl picks are underachieving. (Colts, Broncos)
Teams that looked dominant the first 2 weeks already have injuries. (Bills, Dolphins, Dallas)

Like, of the 32 teams, there's no clear top and bottom, other than four that stand out for me right now as "really good" or "really bad"

The really good: The Eagles at 4-0, The Chiefs have looked pretty damned good even without Tyreek Hill at 3-1, and while Buffalo came out of the gate hot, again, as above... they're starting to get some key injuries that could prove a problem as the year goes on.
The really bad: The Texans, at 0-3-1 and Carolina looks pretty terrible outside of Christian McCaffrey.

I think some of the teams who are underachieving are gonna figure things out over the next two weeks, and some of those overachievers are gonna start coming back down to earth. There's no way the majority of the games remain as close as they were in Week 4, or that everybody's record hovers around .500.

WEEK 5 "WHO'S COOKIN' ON THE HOTSEAT?/FIRE THIS COACH!" DISCUSSION

YOU BETTER WATCH YOUR *** AND GET SOME WINS LIST: Kliff Kingsbury, Cardinals... (LEARN HOW TO CALL PLAYS IN THE FIRST HALF, DUMBASS!) John Harbaugh, Ravens (LEARN HOW TO HOLD A LEAD AND STOP HAVING SCREAMING MATCHES ON THE SIDELINES WITH YOUR PLAYERS!)

    10. Mike Tomlin, Steelers: Alright, look… I don’t want Mike Tomlin fired. I think he’s a damned fine coach, he’s kept the Steelers winning for like a decade, and has never posted a record under .500 in that time. It’s prolifically good. Historically, he’s got one of the best and most consistent coaching records in the entire history of the league.

This being said, even when he just loses in the playoffs, there are Yinzers out there in Pennsyltucky who call for his job. (They’re wrong, but they still do.) Now they’re 1-3, without T.J. Watt, who tore his pectoral muscle, and they have Mitch Trubisky getting benched for Kenny Pickett who, admittedly, showed more promise with his legs than his arm in his first game action. Pittsburgh hasn’t been two games under .500 since

With the QBs around the AFC, I don’t want to fault Mike Tomlin for at least this season, Pittsburgh bringing a knife to a gunfight. Why WON’T he be fired? The Steelers franchise changes coaches about as often as cicadas turn up.

    9. Dennis Allen, Saints : You took over for the guy who brought a Super Bowl to New Orleans. The first rule is, “Never be the guy, who follows THE guy.” Then, you took a job where Jameis Winston was your QB. Your first job was, obviously, “Minimize his mistakes. His stupid, stupid mistakes.”

Dennis Allen has gotten the Saints off to a 1-3 start, in spite of all their talent at the skill positions and on defense, and that one win was by a single point over what was expected to be a “last place” Falcons team in the NFC South. Yesterday, their kicker double-doinked a game-tying FG in a heartbreaking loss in London, and let me tell you… that is THE WORST PLACE TO LOSE in the league. Demoralizing losses across the pond can carry on for weeks in the psyche of a team. And to lose one like that? OY VEY.

The good news is, you can bounce back against the Seahawks next week, but don’t take them for granted, because Pete Carroll has that Seattle team playing way over their heads right now. Following that, they host the Bengals (who look like they righted the ship) and then travel to Arizona, who have traditionally given the Crab-Burglar running your offense fits during his career.

    8. Dan Campbell, Lions : To paraphrase a cleverer poster than me, “The Lions continue their 60 year process of rebuilding…”

Wait, is it now 70? It might be 70. But to the current guy…

Dan Campbell is a former Tight Ends coach who yells about getting up again and again to bite your opponents’ kneecaps, which starts out like some inspiring Captain America speech but sometimes ends up sounding like a meek little chihuahua. He needs to send a bouquet of flowers to HBO’s Hard Knocks every day for making him look like a super-soldier throughout the pre-season, and making Detroit a hard team to root against, especially young receiver Amon-Ra St.Brown and DeAndre Swift, who is possibly the best RB in Detroit since Barry retired.

Still, for all that bluster, Detroit is 1-3, and their defense gave up 555 yards yesterday in a shootout with the Seattle Seahawks. When you get boat-raced by an offense led by Geno Smith, you might want to consider there’s something wrong with your D. Campbell’s platitudes don’t seem to be inspiring those guys to stop anyone. Detroit is giving up over 30 points a game right now. Next week, they travel to Foxboro to play a hobbled Patriots team. Which, about that…

    7. Bill Belichik, Patriots : Belichik got to the playoffs last year with a rookie QB in Mac Jones. Mind you, Buffalo DESTROYED THEM in that game, never punting against a vaunted Patriots defense. New England got handled by division rival Miami in the season opener, 20-7, and that might have something to do with the fact that they nearly broke Mac Jones’ back. He was injured again in Week 3, and looks to be missing multiple games this time.

That bleak Pats offensive line promptly got Brian Hoyer killed yesterday, and New England had to turn to unheralded rookie QB Bailey Zappe out of Western Kentucky University. Yes, a Hill-Topper was leading the Patriots.

Let’s uh… not write him off. After all, Zappe and New England’s defense gave the Packers a run for their money yesterday, taking them deep into overtime, and the last time folks tried to write off New England for fielding a rookie QB, it was some guy named Tom Brady who ended up sticking it to prognosticators and them became the GOAT.

Okay, the odds of that happening TWICE don’t seem realistic, so they’re likely to struggle, whether it be with Hoyer, Zappe, or Jones upon his return.

We don’t think Belichik ever gets FIRED fired, but Robert Kraft coerces him to retirement before dipping out to a local massage parlor and let the faithful keep heading to Foxboro for overpriced tickets. So we’re keeping him at the #9 spot on our list for now.

    6. Frank Reich, Colts : You played the frequent train wreck that is the Houston Texans… and you TIED. How do you get yet ANOTHER Pro Bowl veteran QB in free agency for the third year in a row (Rivers, Wentz, now Matt Ryan), have him throw for 352 yards, get another 161 on the ground from Jonathon Taylor… and only tie the TEXANS?

AND THEN YOU GET SHUT OUT BY THE JAGS? F***ING JACKSONVILLE?

AND THEN YOU LOSE TO A TITANS TEAM THAT WAS LIMPING OUT THE GATE?

The Colts are supposed to be another favorite in the AFC. Virtually a lock to win a decision where the Jags are trying to just rise to being mediocre, the Texans are, again, gonna be hamstrung by an inept front office, and the Titans, their only supposed competition were believed to be taking a step back with an 0-2 start.

AND YET, here they are at 1-2-1 after four games, and having to travel to Mile High to play an equally struggling Broncos team next week.

If they keep handing their coach QBs looking to catch lightning in a bottle and only getting a spark and fizzle, sooner or later they’re going to have to ask if the coach really can take them to the next level. Maybe not, given the coach and GM here are under contract until 2026.

    5. Josh McDaniels, Raiders: The team on this list that at least won a game this week.

Week One was against the Chargers, who look pretty damned good. Week Two, you got an Arizona team that has no corners, and couldn’t stop Kansas City. The Raiders took a 20-0 lead into the locker room, after six quarters, they looked like a disaster. Overall in that game, the Cardinals committed 12 penalties for 120 yards, A.J. Green and Hollywood Brown were dropping almost every first down and TD chucked their way…

AND THE RAIDERS CHOKED away the largest lead ever blown by any Raiders team, ever. They were up 23-7 going into the fourth quarter. They couldn’t get the ball to Davante Adams (2 receptions on 7 targets for 12 yards). Derek Carr went literally 40 minutes in the fourth quarter and overtime without getting to touch the ball, and just when he had Las Vegas in FG range to win it… the Raiders receivers got fumble-itis and managed to have the game end on a note more worthy of an NFL blooper reel, which their defense should also feel while they failed to tackle Kyler Murray on a TD run where he literally scrambled around them for 20 seconds.

Week 3: Hey, you didn’t play awful… but you lost. Mostly because the red zone offense settled for 3 FGs through the day against the Titans, who just did enough to escape with the victory. We know, we know… he’s a first year coach again, and the Raiders still have half of Jon Gruden’s obscene contract to eat. But Raider Nation isn’t endeared with Josh McDaniels, who has to own this embarrassing start to a season where he’s going to be competing in the toughest division in football.

Luckily, McDaniels had the Broncos on the schedule, and got a fumble return for a TD for their first defensive touchdown in three years…That takes them off the list of “teams who could potentially go 0-17”, and that’s at least a start. I wouldn’t say he’s out of the woods as a first year coach, as a juggernaut from KC is facing his squad next week, and that could get lopsided.

    4. Nathaniel Hackett, Broncos : This team is the most inept-looking 2-2 team in the league right now. Their wins have underwhelmed, and one was against the lowly Texans. If they’d poached Eric Bienemy from the Chiefs, they wouldn’t be having this problem right now. Instead, they have a coaching staff with a first time head coach, first time OC, first time DC, and first time Special Teams coach. Who the F*** does something that arrogant?

Oh yeah, John Elway is still making decisions, right? While the team got sold to the Walton family and the old ownership bickered over Pat Bowlen’s will. Right, everything checks out.

The NFL schedule-makers fed Denver the Seahawks’ “Pete Carroll farewell tour” in Week One because they wanted that “Russell Wilson’s Revenge Game”, and then followed it up with giving the Broncos the Clusterf*** that is the Houston Texans in Week Two. And it’s lucky for Hackett that he had that second attempt at a layup, because people wanted him fired after the first week. This week, Jimmy G managed to step on his own d*** so that the Broncos got their second win in a game where their offense just looks disjoined and non-functional. An offense that, again, yoinked Russell Wilson out of Seattle and are making John Schneider look smart for dealing him.

Did we mention they’ve lost their starting RB, Javonte Williams to injury, and they have the Chiefs coming to town next week? At least the week after that, they get the Texans in what we’ll already know to be a “get right” game. They will get right, right?

    3. Ron Rivera, Washington Commanders: We hate putting his name on this list, but we’ve done it for three years now. Why’s it hard? The guy risked Covid-19 while coaching through fighting cancer and BEAT IT. That battle is probably the only positive news story you can find about the Washington Football Team from the past two years. The front office absolutely wants a guy they can champion who’s up against something as reviled as cancer, because it’s only slightly better regarded than a scumbag like their owner Daniel Snyder, who currently is trying to mitigate the damage from several potentially criminal activities and ignore Congressional subpoenas, hoping he won’t be forced to sell the team.

We have been, and continue to rooting for Riverboat Ron, but we know Daniel Snyder is also the exact kind of motherf***er who would fire a guy who risked death to coach his team.

They opened up with a schedule with the Jaguars (they won!) but in Week 2, they went on the road to Detroit, and gave up 4 TDs to Jared Goff. Yes, THAT Jared Goff, who we give no credit to, we just know Amon St. Brown is that f’n good. Week 3 saw them get completely humiliated by their division rivals from Philly, and the defense, which is supposed to be Rivera’s forte, looks like toasted ass.

Cooper Rush and the Cowboys defense coasted to a 25-10 win over the Commanders yesterday, dropping them to 1-3. They’ll have to try and get a victory in Week 5 against a resurgent Titans squad, who are looking to get into the driver’s seat in their AFC South race. But Washington, in this division? They’re already 3 games back of Philly as we get into October. That’s not a good sign.

    2. Matt Ruhle, Panthers: Under Ruhle’s leadership, the Panthers have lost 14 of their last 17 games. Bringing in Baker Mayfield has not changed the fortunes of Carolina’s offense. Note also, Ruhle’s supposed to be an offensive genius, he’s got a former Heismann winning QB and one of the best running backs in football over the past decade… and they only get 170 passing yards with them… luckily they were playing a Saints team led by Jameis Winston who had 2 fumbles (recovered both, but lost yards) and 2 INTs… which was enough to give the Panthers a 22-16 win.

Ruhle’s record as a coach is now 11-25. He’s got to try and move up in a division that features the Saints and Bucs and while a lot of folks thinking this might be the year that he turns it around, and Baker Mayfield finally settles in as a quality NFL starter and stops putting his foot in his mouth…

Matt Ruhle got flat out outcoached by Kliff Kingsbury yesterday.

    KLIFF F***ING KINGSBURY.

Baker Mayfield had 9 passes batted down, and the crowd were booing the offense throughout the second half, with what little time they were on the field as the Panther’s defense just let Arizona run the time of possession to obscene levels against them, blowing a 6 game win-streak Carolina had against the Cardinals.

We don’t expect Mayfield to fare much better against San Francisco’s front seven next week, either.

    1. Lovie Smith, Texans: We respect Lovie Smith, but we also know that the owners of the Houston Texans wanted Josh McCown to be their next coach, and it’s only because of Brian Flores’ lawsuit that the f***sticks in their front office got caught potentially skirting the Rooney Rule and backpedaled to hire Lovie to cover their asses from any league punishments that could have come.

There were some thoughts about how Lovie might be coaching his ass off through the first two games, tying the Colts in Week 1 even though they were many people’s AFC favorite, and in Week 2, they held their own against the Broncos, another trendy pick to do the same. Was Lovie turning Houston around?

Week 3 was a big, “DOUBT IT” moment after the Texans lost an easily winnable game to the Bears. And it was ugly offensively. How did the Bears win with Justin Fields posting a stat line of 8/17 for 107 yards, 0 TDs, and 2 INTs?

Because Houston’s defense gave up 281 yards rushing to Chicago, that’s how. And Lovie is one of those “defensive coaches”, so that’s pretty sad that his front 7 were a sieve like that.

The L.A. Chargers yesterday had a “playing injured” Justin Herbert carve up their secondary for 340 yards and two TDs, dropping them to 0-3-1, still the only winless team in the league, and they have to travel to play a pretty scrappy Jaguars team next Sunday. If Lovie can’t etch a “W” in that side of the ledger, we wouldn’t be shocked if the Texans fired him during their BYE week after that game and swapped him out for Josh McNown, like they wanted all along.

I'm really shocked at how KC has handled the loss of Tyreek Hill. They literally have Shuster and (name escapes me) from Green Bay doing well enough. Its one of those...I knew Mahomes was irked about what Hill has said in preseason but he seems to be playing just as well. I hope it keeps up the rest of the season.

Its a long season and I'm not gonna proclaim the Chiefs as great or playoff bound. A lot can happen.

I think you mean Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

But I can't be surprised that Andy Reid knew how to get production from different personnel, given his long, long history of success of developing West Coast style offenses. Whether he had elite speed receivers or not, Reid has always put points on the board. Even with less-than-stellar QBs. He still has Mahomes, so one weapon being replaced with two pretty quality players... I'm not even surprised.

I think the Chiefs look good, however, because they finally started getting young talent in the draft on defense. Karlaftis looks like he's gonna be a beast, and maybe losing Tyrann Mathieu in the secondary added more speed that they needed. I love me Honey Badger, but he's getting up there in years now.

The Honey Badger didn't wanna go and even waited to see if KC would resign him for veteran depth. He was willing to do that but KC under Veach as GM is very big on moving on from players they feel they need to. I mean the surprise cuts Reid would do since as Coach is ....just wild. He's cut guys I'd sit and question here.

Like moving on from Derrick Johnson , Brandon Flowers , and Justin Houston. In the case of all 3 I was stunned because they were all solid quality defensive players. But 2 didn't last long after moving to new teams and were retired soon after and Houston is now a part time player.

Its the ability to move on and replace that amazes me under Andy Reid.

I had to check, but Andy Reid, over his career, averages 10 wins a season.

The only coaches that aren't in the HoF with that rate are him and Belichik, and it's because they are still coaching right now. The only reason Reid's not considered more is, obviously, fewer rings than someone like Belichik. But Reid has done it in two cities, with multiple QBs at the helm. Belichik's win total is almost all with Tom Brady, with the one season of Jimmy G. But in Cleveland and with Cam or Mac Jones, the Patriots are just "okay".

It's Reid just being slightly better than .500 in the postseason, but Belichik winning more, and titles that make him the clear #1 for "best HoF coach working right now" and not Reid. But goddamn, Andy Reid is a pretty goddamned good second place for that.
