Prereading for The New Teen Titans: The Judas Contract

I've had the collected volume The New Teen Titans: The Judas Contract sitting on my shelf a long time.

The only other volume I've read was Volume 5 of The New Teen Titans though long forgotten it.

What is the essential reading to preread to understand this trade? I'd prefer to read as little as possible while having enough background to actually enjoy the impact of the Judas Contract.

I know nothing about this storyline so no spoilers please.

I think for the full effect you need to read issues 28-41 before the Judas Contract story itself kicks off in issue 42. It gives the story more punch if you do.

I agree. You need to read it from #28 when Terra first shows up.

Personally, I'd start from the beginning. But majority rules, so their suggestions should take precedence...

While I agree that from #28 on is important to read continuously up to the Judas Contract, especially to understand Terra's part of the story, NTT #1 and #2 are essential to read for Deathstroke's part of the story, since it's where you learn Deathstroke's motivations and why he's even involved with the Titans. (There are other Deathstroke appearances between #2 and #28, which help flesh out his story with the NTT and how those antagonist actions grew over time, but NTT #1 and #2 really started the whole thing).

Hmmm I may have to see if there are some YouTube summaries... or possibly see if my Used book store has some more volumes... it's a lot to read and I know many are passionate about this run see it as the best of the teen titans.... what I have read of the era felt pretty old school for someone like me who is more into modern comics...

Vol 1 omnibus isn't even released yet and only covers 17 issues... hmm
